Pairing up a VS150…..

Looking for a spinning rod to go with a VS150.

Will be used from a boat for the most part so I’m thinking a 1 piece 7’-8' tops. I have a good surf rod for it but need something for the boat that’s not as long and will cast decent. Would like something with some backbone for larger fish.

Any suggestions…………

I loved my st croix premier rod, I had it paired with a vs150. I used it for back bays and spring fishing.

For boat uglystick tiger lite jigging. I use them for eels and plugs and jigging. Real versatile and not real $$. Good backbone. Will handle fish to over 50 lbs.

Is this going to be a plugging/eeling rod for striped bass?

For the most part it’s going to be a bass set up for plugs/jigs and maybe an occasional eel. I'm looking for something versatile though and capable of scuffle with some small footballs if the opportunity arises while off shore.

I like Nebe's suggestion

I use a 6'9" terez and a 150 filled with 30# samurai on the boat. Ridiculously versatile, from plugging, eeling, trolling, casting light, vertical jigging. Tons of backbone and light as a feather. K concept guides, no knots. Would handle footballs with no issues and light enough to sea bass and scup fish with.
Very happy with it.

My 150 is on an older Pac Bay Plum colored 7' medium action. I'm not sure what the model number was but it is a perfect for eels, plugs and jigs.

G Loomis Pro Blue 843 or 844. Similar concept to the Terez; it can make a smaller bass not entirely boring but still bring it against a 60 pound tuna but it's still very light in the hand. Also more "traditional" looking if the Terez look is a bit too much.

Very similar backbone between the 843 and 844, mostly just the tip differs with the 843 being the lighter of the two. 844 is a great rod for ch#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g big plugs towards structure.

Thanks guys......

At this point I'm going to take a look at:
GLoomis (Palagic & Pro Blue)
Shimano (Terez)

Also saw a great deal on a St.Croix Premier SWS 70MF that I might not be able to refuse.......................

Another vote for the shimano terez. Sweet rod, use it for back bay fishing.

I also have the pro blue and like Pete says smaller fish are still fun yet has the back bone to handle a larger fish if needed.
