Fly Fishing Cape Ann

Watched a half dozen fly fishers fish the Annisquam River today. Two or three were catching a few fish. Just have to have the right fly. fish are starting to arrive and if fishing from a boat a sinking line is the line to use if you are in at least ten feet of water. You will increase your chances of catching a big fish ten fold. Small fish on top Big fish on bottom.

Cape Ann

Hey I'm new. I haven't caught a fish yet. However I've seen plenty diving and snorkeling over the years. I can't think of a place that doesn't have them. I just took a class to learn to cast, fish... . It was cool. The guy really said anywhere on Cape Ann is good. As for tackle he suggested: black or white depending on light, smaller flys, keep it simple w/ that intermediate line. That is basically what I got. Can't wait to get out there I just got waders at Winchester Supply on Wash. street for $60. Cheap and tough. Its going to be a good summer. Record #s I hear.

Congrats on becoming a flyfisher

Chartreuse /white is excellent ; 5" or 6" flies an all white fly works. Black or black /white Black is a good nite color also in dirty water. Intermediate fly line is fine.

Waders- Hope you got the ones with the felt soles. Rubber soles are no good around Cape Ann. You may want to invest in a pair of korkers and they have metal cleats for on the rocks.

Wading Belt-That is a must Has saved many a person from drowning. The Merrimac always claims one or two people in waders

Rocks- Be very carefull on the black slime. Even when dry Black slime has a wicked reputation for cracked heads and dislocated shoulders and an orcasional death.

Good Luck! ! !
