Cane

Hi Everyone..Been absent for a while due to health reasons..It looks like I will be needing a cane to get around for the rest of my life...I would love a "customized" one...My brother turns plugs up to 14 "..Is there somebody out there who could turn something for a cane..The one I am using now is roughly 3/12 feet..but would love a personalized one...I think if I could get one turned at that lenght Frank could finish it with wrapping and whatever..Thanks in advance

I'm going where I'm going...

I have a lot of Mountain Laurel on my land. I occasionally have pieces that are "cane" shaped. This is beautiful wood and very, very strong because at 3 inches in diameter it's 50+ years old.

If you want, I'll set aside a cane for you. Don't know where you live but I'll deliver it.

No boat, back in the suds.

Why not have a rod builder make you one out of a broken fishing rod?

Would turning wood make for a heavy cane?

As for making out of a rod blank, be sure not to drive over it or slam it in a car door - might void the blank warranty

Hey, Mike! I have got to say that a cane is a hell of a lot better than being in the wheelchair, which is where I last saw you.... Hope your rehab is progressing well.

My lathe is also a 1014, so can't help with the turning.....

I'd think it might be more like a table leg than walking stick.

Mountain laurel is good stuff, would make one heck of a carved cane.

Might just consider buying something really nice so it's sized right and has good balance. If you're going to be using it all the time I wouldn't cut corners.

my Cane when i use it (on my bad days) is made from driftwood
that came from the coast of Oregon and it is made out of
Manzanita wood which is extremely strong.

the handle portion is actually the root and very thick giving you
much support for your hand but more importantly it is quite long
(3/4's the length of my forearm)
which facilitates your ability to lay your forearm upon it when it's
time to stand up from a sitting position making it the perfect design.
