Freshwater fishing report

Went R.I. pike fishing today. No pike. Blue sky, not very fishy. But ended up with a 4- to 5-pound white catfish. The fish hit a 6-inch bomber on a slow retrieve.

That's a first for me.

A white catfish on a bomber!!! That's awesome.

Two years ago about this time of year I was fishing a senko for largemouths. I hooked out at the end of my cast what I thought would be my personal lmb record. I put the pressure on him and my rod bends way over. Kind of a sluggish fight but the water was cold, so i figure nothing too unusual. I get him close and then.... WTF is that!! White catfish! I put him on my little ole 8 lb zebco deliar and it bottoms out. I figured maybe 9 or 10 lbs or so. I heard ther were some good sized cats in this pond, but that's the only time I ever caught one on an artificial lure.
