Tecnu works ok. Nothing's better than a hairdryer

When I was a teenager I was super allergic. Sometime in the 1980's they came out with a shot that was suppose to boost your immunity to the oil. About a week before our family summer vacation I got my first inoculation.

They didn't realize I was so allergic that the single shot alone made my skin freak out...it was terrible.

They had that shot in the 70's! I used to have to get them yearly! The first year I got like 6....next year 5 and so on until I was down to the one and that was it! I used to get it so bad if I got it on my finger tip it would go all the way to my armpit! If I am even within a few feet of it I can catch it! Just had some 2 weeks ago...moved some wood with gloves on....got it on my forearm!!! I hate it! Nothing feels better than scaulding hot water on it.......saltwater always dries me right up!

Almost time to get our fish on!!!

Home remedy: heat either blowdryer or hot water is like crack. Somehow feels like you are scratching it. Wash with Fels naptha brown bar laundry soap and rub into a paste and let it dry on there too. The ivy dry / technu stuff works but is expensive. But the best if you have a bad case and if you have good co pay on insurance see the medi center, get a steroid rx. It will help it move along quickly and hopefully only cost you 20 or 30 which in my mind is worth it.

Thanks guys. Yeah called a friend who is a pharmacist and he said just go get some prednisone pills from doc. Didn't get it from trees but was doing some brush clearing and took my sweat shirt off to short sleeves. Gloves kept it off the hands but forearms and stomach area for some reason. Hard to see the stuff when it has not leafed out yet but should have know better becasue it is like a ground cover in my woods. Stupid me.

Post (i consider myself an Authority)

but ....the water is a bit cold for "BATHING" thus Far.

when i grew up at the beach our house lot was a veritable poison Ivy
JUNGLE and subsequently i had it ALWAYS and later became an expert
at killing it .and ridding my body of it... (i am HIGHLY Alergic to it)
(as it is said "if i even LOOK at it......... I have it")

if your covered Paul , you need Prednezone (prescription)steroids to turn the tide back in your favor......... go see a DOCtor
~
the thing with the poison ivy oil is that it penetrates the outer skin
and then sits on top of you subcutaneous red layer of skin underneath
then (until) the BODY finds it ! and says "WE CAN"T have THIS crap here"
and it raises a blister to dispel (excrete) the poison IVY oil away.

with saltwater the residue of salt from seawater both drys the skin and flushes the oil off of you... but the best method is to sit on the beach get wet and
wait til dry and repeat over and over to FIGHT IT. still kinda cold for that.

Other than getting in the "PINK" using Calamine lotion which help's dry things up remarkably well ....... here's what i recommend

this is WHAT started me on my Health QUEST originally
learning "how to fight" F-ing poison IVY

ALCOHOL leaches your body of it's VITAMIN B especially BEER
doesn't matter the source really of alcohol

that leaves you WIDE open in your immune system response
of your SKIN when encountering the PI OIL even if just dealing with the plant's red roots "ONLY" I know that's what you were doing

the way to rid your YARD of poison IVY is with Black plastic
and smother it to death allowing it to have ZERO LIGHT!
spray it with Round up then cover it for a year.

to rid the body of it you have to blast yourself with all the B- vitamins to UPGRADE your skins recuperative powers 10-fold.
You do this with NUTRITIONAl Brewer's yeast left over from the beer making process then dried into either powder or flakes
this you stir into milk (well stirred) and down the hatch
(sometimes it can bloat you when your first using it so get your body accustomed to it. first teaspoons then later you can boldly use tablespoons) or simply take gas X or beano simultaneously) ok?

ALSO eat banana's and drink no alcohol for a long time until your winning the battle!!! (to retain your vitamin B )

ALSO-2 i would wear LONG Sleeve lightweight shirt's to bed
and pajama's because you have to prevent yourself from scratching it directly IN YOUR SLEEP

i also use technu (highly recommend) SO anytime i think "ive been exposed"
that's when i'll scrub my arms/ hands/legs with the technu
as a precaution

recommendation Number 2 (eradication)

some of you may LAUGH

But when i go out to declare WAR on Poison IVY
with my weed whacker no less

First i go to HOME DEPOT and buy a cheap disposable $15 bucks
BLUE Painters pant suit that poison IVY oil cannot penetrate

i wear that with gloves and a grinders full shield face mask
my version of a HAZMAT SUIT

so when i am chopping (brush cutter blade) cutting down newly emerging
RED
poison ivy leaves in SPRING none of the OIL can get to my skin
for that hour or two of bush whackin

then, i go with covering the stubble with either black plastic sheeting
anchored with SOD chunks ,bricks ect, OR i use heavy gauge 4-6 mil trash bags full of debris whatever to
cover/smother that spot until it die's

prednisone works like a MIRACLE and TDF is absolutely CORRECT
BUT
like any STEROID .it has it's own set of undesirable side effects
that you have to be aware of... and not just BLINDLY take it
like it's a F-ing Breath MINT

Whoa, whoa.......You mean to tell me there is no need to pass through that black hole portal and join the mothership to travel into another dimension or time to avoid getting poison ivy? That's what I did!!!!

For you, Paul, go with a scrip from the doctor. Supplement with whatever home remedy you wish if it will make you feel better.
For your infested woods..... nuke it with round up. Might have some collateral damage but just remember how you are feeling now. Victory through superior firepower...... Blacktop if necessary imo!

P. the Prednisone pack now and in the future if you know you've been exposed
take a shower as soon as possible using Technu like a soap and it will get rid of all the oil.
