My Wife's Email address
Jenn's e-mail address is spamming everyone and their brother. What the hell is going on and how do we stop it?

I don't know but it sounds like someone hacked it
change the password immediately for one thing
or cancel it
I think you should change the address and start over
that sucks

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

Well, thats always a hard one.
Question 1 does she use a pc or device that uses and email client like outlook
If so change pass word and scan pc.
Question 2, has she pissed anyone off or signed up for a cruise or for something free on line?
This is one of the oldeat forms of "spoofing" once the email address is out it grts added to lists and programs will continue to spam.
The 2 ways that are popular are listed above, there are others, but the sad part is she may need to create a new email address.
If tou can get me a copy of the email i.will check the meta data and see if its truely coming from her email or if ts spoofed.
LMK if i can help.

Yeah, if it's sending to people in her contact list it's a virus.

If it's a cloud based mail service cross reference the list of vulnerable accounts from the Heartbleed vulnerability (openSSL). She may have to change the password. She should also see if that mail provider supports two factor authentication. Its worth the hassle these days to protect the treasure trove of personal information we have stored in these accounts.

MS Security Essentials is hardly a speed bump to security threats, let alone a good perimeter defense. MSSE faired the worst out of a recent (last year) round up on AV products. Do Not Rely on MS Security Essentials pleeeeeze.
Change all of your passwords - particularly email.
But as mentioned elsewhere their is plenty of email spoofing going on, including that of lists. Twenty years fo scanning massive email lists and about every email address and the ones they associate with are known to spammers.

Thanks for the advice, guys. Jenn called AOL directly ans they said that they're working on it. Just change the password.

Has anyone suggested getting rid of the AOL account? I know a lot of people have a hard time with it (my future mother in law included) but there are a lot of other providers out there that give you significantly more value for your account. That and they are typically further ahead of the curve with identifying and remediating issues like these.
