Go Pro software question

Is their software that you need to load on your computor to work with the video you shoot with the go pro, or is the microsoft media software sufficient for that. I video'd the bird feeder for practice, but it would not run other than being able to see the opening shot. Tried to download whats offered on the go pro web site but it would not download, so I figure I have a stop at Best Buy coming.

Question pulling the chip

can't you just yank the memory chip
out of the camera and plug it into the pc slot
(hoping you have one of course)
and then when the menu appears (pops up)
select the option for the way to view it?

Download Windows LIVE Movie Maker, it is free, to edit videos. You need Win7 or 8 I think. Windows Media Player should run the MP4 file, but no editing ability.

Given the diversity of the human species, there is no “normal” human genome sequence. We are all mutants.

Does it run and just crash? Odds are you need a better video card to watch the footage. GoPro cameras capture a TON of data in that little housing and the footage comes out at a pretty powerful framerate.... CPU and GPU are very important when reviewing it.

If you have a regular computer, research a good quality video card... If you have a laptop its going to be much harder to get something that works well.

You could also use the CineForm Studio software to convert to a more workable resolution and framerate, but that is a laborsome task as well.... Its a shame they market these things as small and easy yet the average consumer PC can't process the footage cleanly.

I told Bev that Vista is compatible, but if its an early version, maybe not, this might get me that new Apple platform we have talked about

for example, look at "new egg" stuff
best buy isn't always up to par.... on the latest graphics cards

If I ordered that card would the vista hardware accept it?

that particular card is for high end graphics and costs in the 3 hundreds
it takes up allot of space as they are wider with dual fans to keep it cool...

so you'd need two available slots on the back of your pc
if we're talking about a desktop

you have to ask yourself is it time to upgrade my whole
computer now ( 7 years old is ancient technology)
to something that comes complete with a better graphics card
that will handle the go pro movies demand on the system

or should i just switch to a better card?

here's a photo of the inside of my ASUS case
so you can see the wider card and how much room
it requires. These new cards come with on board memory
of 3-8 gigs (anything to do with graphics eats memory fast).

and the slot style has to match....
a good question for the GEEK squad @ best buy
make sure you have the name and model number
of your PC written down

Craig I wandered through the micro soft media setup and found that MP4 videos can be watched on a Windows 7 setup and higher, which would explain my dilema. Then it said if your Vista setup if they had the right codec and
something else installed you'd be ok. So obviously my Vista software was too early. I am not going to update this computor. We have been talking about an Apple product so maybe this will push the money manager a little.

If you plan to do video editing, make the extra investment in quality... Even some of the Apple stuff doesn't have the horsepower to handle the newer Gopro footage. Go apple and use their editing software, in 3 years you'll look back through your videos and appreciate the added cost

making progress

horsepower indeed.....
that picture is of my gtx 560 and as powerful a beast
as it is.... my game can still crash it or lock it up...
(id love to upgrade to the 780)

i recently downloaded what's running 3

and use other software to keep unnecessary programs from running
in the background to maximize performance....
but....
with windows 7 you can choose the option of running
the computer for the best performance....

hopefully the apple replacement will give you that option too
