Deformed striper

Today's charter produced something that was a 1st to me.
32 inch fish came to the boat.
Had 1 eye.
One side the eye was perfectly normal. Other side nothing there, and I don't mean eye ball missing.
Weird !
Jaw was a bit deformed also.
Didn't think to snap a picture to show.
On a side note.
Haven't seen 1 fish this year with the red sores (macro)

I caught a one-eyed bass years ago while chunking. Other eye socket healed right over. Probably took a hook as a youngster. I

My partner Chris and I have 100+ fish over 34" this year and we have not seen one with red sores. Weird, maybe all the fish with red sores died.

No boat, back in the suds.

My best guess about the red sores.
Water temp.
Had the crew of divers out sat afternoon.
Surface temp around 56-58
Down below (40-70 ft) 45

The last fish I caught in RI had red sores. Fish can have Myco without having visible sores, myco begins inside the fish. It slowly spreads through the internal organs & muscle tissues until eventually creating the sores / scar tissue during advanced stages of the disease.

I was thinking water temps as well. We really didnt see these red sores till the water was getting warmer then normal. I know the science says other but I have a dog that when he starts to get to hot he will start to develop a few red scabs under his fur. Was thinking maybe bass have some sort of the same reaction to heat..

I caught a 23" Bass last summer and the one eye was perfect, the other looked totally shredded. No sores though.

Probably got foul hooked like the one you mentioned.

Two years ago I caught a bass about 38" that was missing the top section of its tail. It looked completely normal, not like an injury, just missing the section. It must have been a birth defect, or an injury from very early in its life. Very weird to look at, but still put up a hell of a fight!
