projo access article

Hey I'm new to this page, but am surprised to see no one talking about the recent journal article on access.

http://www.projo.com/fishing/content...ess.9a4a9.html

Alot of you guys seem to be shore fishing guys, this has gotta burn you up. Maybe if we all send some letters to CRMC and all show up to fish at Warwick Neck by getting dropped off in a bus we'll get some attention!

On a whole it is discouraging. I know of a few spots that have been tarnished by substinance fishermen, from bait boxes, rotten bait on the rocks, and garbage strewn about (even though there is a trash can no more than 20 ft away) to a few dozen lengths of twine left in water with peices of chicken tied on the ends. When they arent splashing around in the water 2 feet away from where you are fishing, the crap they left attracts every rat and skunk within a square mile.

As for RI fishing access, if I didnt know better. I'd say the state was trying to screw us with the proposed saltwater license and the ever shrinking lack of access to the water. I wonder what to do, consider it is technically protected under Article 1, Section 17.

Talk about access to the ocean, come visit Newport.Walk the rocks for a few miles only to have a "richy-rich" abutting land owner call the cops and the cops will more than likely hall you off!
Take the hike out to Price's Neck.Any local can tell what might happen.Mean hightide line my arse.

Access in Newport? There is no such thing. This is going back 7 or 8 yrs ago. I went out early one after noon and hiked around behind all the big houses on the drive found a good spot to sit for the night thru out a chunk with 1 rod and started pluging with the other. After about a half hour a topless 80 somthing woman comes to the edge of the rocks and starts yelling at me that I was makink to much noise ( how can you hear a reel over the waves from more than 10 feet away? ) and that I was on private property. I tryed to explane to here about the mean high tide mark and when that did not work I asked her to put a top on and have her grand daughter come down topless to ask me to leave. cuss and cuss and cuss and she stomped away 10 min later she is standin there with her whole bathing suit on with 3 newport cops yelling that I was a peeping tom and was hiding in her yard trying to watch her sunbath. Off I go for a ride to the station. Fortunatly I had 2 good freinds ( only one now one retired and moved to FLA ) on the Newport force who talked the guys into loosing the paperwork forgetting my name and giving me a ride back to my truck. I went to a private spot behind a freinds house that night and cought my largest bass ever ( 43# ) so it all worked out. Lesson dont bother with the big houses in Newport you cant win!
