Jose
I don't want to be the boy who cried wolf, but I'm seeing the projected track on this slowly shifting west.
Just a heads up to everyone to keep a close eye on this.

We're due. Been quite a few years since we had a hurricane unless you count Sandy.

I suspect even its current projected track will shut down fishing on this side for about 4 days.

Defiantly. I'm certain we can at least expect tropical storm strength winds.

models seem to show it coming right at us as much as anything else, still early, but likely not off by that much...Cutty usually takes a good three days to clean up and turn back on I am sorry to say

Don't even look at the Euro then right now... shows Jose retrograde SE of Nantucket between 144 an 168H and turn west into NJ. Unlikely of course but shows the uncertainty beyond a couple of days.
Dear Jose,
Please go away, I have enough work to do already!
Sincerely,
Friendly Neighborhood (coastal) Geologist.

the cold water will hurt this storm before it brings any major damage. We'll never get a major storm up our way this late in the year.

Except the 1938 Hurricane, which was later in September (21st?) (Cat 3), the 1944 storm (Cat 2) just passed that anniversary... Oh and Sandy (Halloween-ish).

Are you serious? The most powerful hurricane to ever hit New England, the 1938 storm that killed about 600 people, hit on 21 September.
Sandy was a day or two before Halloween.

I really dont feel like pulling the boat. Hoping i can tuck it inside somewhere.
Not sure if any of you guys surf but this has been a pretty bitter sweet couple of weeks. Some of the most consistant swell ive seen at the expense of others peoples damaged homes. Makes you think as your enjoying perfect head high rights everyday for 5 days and more on the way.

Looking now at the hurricane tracker app and the NHS forecast has it as a tropical storm when it's off of Long Island now. That's somewhat of a relief.

So the 5day from Wunderground (worst effing name ever) has it curling south of NE/LI as tropical storm. But it has been edging west and closer and closer to NE

What will really be ironic is that regardless of how close it comes, there will still be people whining about the rain and wind like it was a cat 5 storm sitting right on top of them!
We get the same knee-jerk (emphasis on the "jerk") reaction to ANY storms we get because we don't see too many "life altering" events.
When was the last major weather-related event that destroyed property, shut down the city and caused significant loss of life?
If it's gonna hit us, do it fast and get it over with.
Don't do a "Harvey" number on us and sit around for days....wait, isn't that what the blizzard of '78 did????
We shall survive, we will get through this and the fish may still be there afterwards...

Its going too be an interesting week at the Derby. Guess I should dedicate lots of time early in the week and be extra cautious.
|
It all started last year during a terrible thunderstorm, when I locked myself out of the house. Shelving myself with a large piece of sheet metal, I ran for cover under the tallest tree I could find!

And Carol 1954 in August I believe. My father was working in downtown prov and swam up Dorrance street. Some guy on the roof of the White Castle hamburger joint grabbed him as he went by. Saved his life.

Watched 5 pine trees come down from my kitchen window during Hurricane Bob in 1991, was in there with the family, as the only large pine that might impact the house was upwind and on the other end of the house.

going to track east of us, some wind and rain that's all. Course the media will hype it up like it's the storm of the year because they have nothing else better to do.

nice to see things tracking east, still showing a major drop in pressure though and wind at almost 30. I think we dodged this one. Fish on!
