Back from the Cape
Honest to God, that is a magical place, spent 9 days camping at Atlantic Oaks in Eastham, great location.
Spent 6 hours with a lobsterman out of P-town, we helped him haul 105 pots, not a tourist excursion, this was a day of work, yet it was a blast. Caught a ton of lobsters, had a few hake and 1 bass in the pots.
Fished with Bobby Rice, spent most of the time on the ocean side of p-town. Loaded up on mackeral, caught several stripers in the 15 pound class, nothing huge. His boat, a 33 foot invincible, is insane..
Spent some time at First Encounter beach, kids loved splashing around, catching hermit crabs.
Spent a lot of time at Head of the Meadow, something about that beach I love. Depending on the tide, there is usually a calm pond between the beach and the actual ocean, so you can swim in calm water or go into bigger waves. Kids loved it.
Ate some amazing food at Arnolds, the BBQ joint near Marconi, and at Savory in Truro. And I learned that my favorite teacher from high school, owns a clam shack in Brewster called Cobies, it's been there for 71 years, his dad bought it 31 years ago. Terrific foot long hot dogs and fried clams and ice cream.
Caught a Cape Cod league game, rode our bikes on the bike trail, played some mini golf.
It is an amazing, amazing place. If I have a few good years between retirement and the grave, I would consider living there year-round. It really speaks to me, I love everything about it.
Appreciate the folks here, who have given me great advice over the years. Already made our reservations for next year, 10 nights next time.

Sounds like a great vacation. Its funny, when you said you were going to Eastham in your initial post I commented that I was going to be down there as well. I had my camper at Atlantic Oaks for 4 nights last weekend. Would have liked to say hello and put a name face with a name.

Sorry that wasn't clear, would have been great. We were in site H2.
Have you been to Atlantic Oaks before? It's a great campground. We go most years, unless my mother-in-law wants to join us, in which case we rent a house.

How did your son's tournament go? It was cold that weekend.
Did you catch any fish?

We were in B3, almost as soon as you pull in, in the second row third site. We didn't catch much, lots of seals on Coast Guard beach and Nauset Beach as well, CG Beach was closed due to sharks so the bass just weren't there. Great night on the beach with my son so it was a win for me.
We went undefeated in the tournament for the championship! Always nice to beat the host team. We are leaving in the morning for Nashville to Play in a show case tournament. Should be fun, actually meeting with the coach from Vanderbilt.

Thanks for sharing. Glad you had an awesome experience again. My family and I head up for first full week of August. Cannot wait. We are staying right near Nauset Farms, I like that location--a decent launching point for all-things Cape Cod.

Sounds like a great time Jim. Going back ourselves to Nauset. Last year was my first Cape vacation. Chatham to P Town and spots in between. Small cottage very close to Nauset beach. This year hope to bike to beach and wet a line.

If you have kids, check out chatham fish pier. In early afternoons, commercial fishing boats come in and unload the catch, you can watch from an observation deck, and seals swim around looking for scraps.

Glad you had fun Jim
we just got home from a couple days in Wellfleet and before we hit the road tonight we had dinner at the Marconi BBQ joint and it was outstanding! I have my wifes' leftover beef rib for dinner tomorrow. That place is excellent, and the stuff inside is all great old stuff to look at too.

Glad you had fun. I spent a few days at HOTM with my family too. We were off to the left. Did you see a handsome bald guy running after birds down the sand bar?
