Alrighty....SLOW....Or Is It Just Me?
Hmmmm........ seems everyday over the past week, come about 12:30 PM or so, the pages here seem to start loading extremely slow.
I just timed it, and from the time I clicked on "New Thread" to the time I could start typing was 2 minutes and 37 seconds......and that was fast compared to a couple of threads I tried to reply to.
Viewing the topics and threads are a bit faster, but not like they are in the mornings.....in the afternoon, even just loading pages to view seem to take extra long.
John, I e-mailed you about this last week, and while it seemed to have improved the next morning, it still seems every afternoon, it slows to a crawl.
So am I the only one, are others experiencing this?
PS....just clicked "edit" to correct some typos, and that time it was 2 minutes and 45 seconds.....
And I don't think it's me, cause I'm not having this problem a few places "elsewhere".....

Steve,
Must be a router between you and the server, things are loading like lightning for me.

Bloo....while it took me about 5 minutes to respond to your post, I'm STILL trying to get the seltzer out of my nose and wiped off my screen......
John.....isn't there a DOS command I can type into the "Start... Run" line that would find where the hang up may be, as per Mike's post? I seem to remember that there is such a thing that can pinpoint the hang-up....
It's still loading slow, and as I said, for some reason, only in the afternoon....

Steve - open a dos window (9X start->run->command or 2K/XP 9X start->run->cmd) and type: tracert www.striped-bass.com
It should read the number of hops and the latency on each hop to the S-B server... Doesn't always work behind firewalls / NAT devices...

we block icmp echoes at our router so I cant use my dos promt for traceroutes . I have other tools for that
traceroute to 205.214.95.164 (205.214.95.164), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
1 genac.net.yale.edu (130.132.23.1) 0.360 ms 0.292 ms 0.269 ms
2 bifrost.net.yale.edu (130.132.1.100) 0.707 ms 0.492 ms 0.623 ms
3 12.175.96.1 (12.175.96.1) 2.484 ms 0.809 ms 0.785 ms
4 12.124.179.65 (12.124.179.65) 2.313 ms 2.368 ms 2.418 ms
5 gbr6-p80.n54ny.ip.att.net (12.123.1.206) 2.293 ms 2.374 ms 2.239 ms
6 tbr1-p012401.n54ny.ip.att.net (12.122.11.13) 6.137 ms 9.075 ms 4.696 ms
7 tbr1-cl1.cgcil.ip.att.net (12.122.10.2) 22.629 ms 22.814 ms 22.626 ms
8 gbr4-p20.dvmco.ip.att.net (12.122.10.122) 38.942 ms 38.709 ms 44.898 ms
9 gbr2-p100.dvmco.ip.att.net (12.122.5.30) 38.845 ms 39.902 ms 40.027 ms
10 * gar2-p370.dvmco.ip.att.net (12.123.36.141) 45.095 ms 39.676 ms
11 12.124.158.110 (12.124.158.110) 56.283 ms 56.338 ms 56.179 ms
12 205.214.95.164 (205.214.95.164) 55.295 ms 54.550 ms 56.707 ms
steve just a thought but lunch time is one of the busiest times on the net at least amongst our 38000 users of course we do need to remove about 4300 of them on strike .

Okay.....First.....Chris....It's not just at lunch hour, it happens from about 1 PM on thru the night till I quit at about 7 or 8 PM.
John, ran that command, and saw 16 hops, and then 3 columns of numbers for each hop with varying amounts of ms (milliseconds?)....
But it was all greek to me, and it ran and dissapeared with no way of me capturing the data.....
I thought there was another command that would show something about dropped "packets" or something of that sort, and usually can pin down the particular server that I'm getting bounced off to get to yours that is causing the problem.....

Oops, sorry, guess I didn't mention that it kept up all afternoon into the evening....
Just my day for PO'ing people, I guess.....
So, since I'm on a roll, wonder what WeeWee and Pants Man are up to.....at this rate, I should be able to at least get WeeWee grumpy enough to be re-instated......
Or I could always go piss of Tim.....
