Bluefish Regulation Changes
Somewhat surprisingly, bluefish regulation changes seem to be almost more divisive that stripers right now. While going from 10 to 3 fish won't make a lick of difference in how I fish (much like pending striper regs won't change my effort), it surprises me to see the arguments being made on both sides of this fence.

Shark bait, for-hire, snappers and using MRIP are in the argument against the changes. The only place where I can see that 3 is a tough pill to swallow is with snappers. For bait or food, 3 snappers isn't enough.

I imagine a lot of the damage is done in targeting the snappers, plus no limits..I see people catching buckets full...imagine what would happen if juvenile stripers were targeted that way

Scott they have the same limit as any rec .was 10 fish going now 3 , that,s one reason they took the whole family ……...I,d go by Beavertail & I see $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ white buckets , For papa bear , Mamma Bear & allllllllllllllllllllllll the fu c in baby bears ,if the don,t fall in .
in reality this change will probably hurt them the most …. where they are fishing for them & where they fish …….just about the only other fish they expect to catch are small scup ..but that limit is high ><><

didn't know that...RI rec says no min size and 15/day....guess I've probably never kept more than 1 or 2 at a time so never checked...notice comm min size is 12"...guess my point is lots of small blues kept...don't spawn till 15-20 inches in length apparently...gotta be a factor

15 is a really high number. I remember one time many years ago on the frances fleet on a striper trip that turned into a blue fish blood bath. I kept 10 monsters. Ate one, gave away a couple and the rest were fertilizer. I see some pics on facebook of a deck full of bluefish and wonder why... I kept a handful last year for the smoker. I think it was about 5 fish, could've made due with 3.

Most Blue fish caught on high-rail party boats go right into the dumpster,
for the simple fact that the mates really have no other method of getting the fish
up over the rail except for a Gaff, so each blue caught is killed whether the angler wants to keep it or not. Most people just want to catch some fish and have a fun day out, but are handed a dozen 8lb blues on their way out. No cooler, no ice, dont want the car to stink = dumpster
