November trip

I am doing the Block in the surf, in November. Just secured accommodations and spinning up a dozen or more big 3oz Needles in BI Neon, White with a green and black line of top.

First time in 3 or 4.

No boat, back in the suds.

God how many "new moon in November" BI trips did I get conned into

Nebe telling me I'd never catch with top water beneath the lighthouse. Then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Lacerating the **** out of my thumb filleting said fish at 1:30am with nothing but toilet paper and duct tape for medical supplies.

The disco floor of bioluminescent plankton by the Coast Guard.

That sausage and egg breakfast burrito at the airport.

Oakley dropping my 50 (likely 65) in the wash at SW point when it was 35 below zero.

Paulie and Dangles bromance in the parking lot for the ferry.

The endless sleep, fish, lasagna, bourbon cycles. Rinse and repeat.

Paulie going for a near swim at Gracies.

Oakley lusting after all the "really fine mud" after Sandy.

Ok, actually those were some good times.

Jeff, you summed it up perfectly. And that was a nice fish you caught that Oakley did a great C & R.

I'll finally get to share casts with you. And I'll help you stumble around the cobble. Nice that we'll be there at the same time.

You’re an absolute beast, Paul. If anyone’s going to slam fish out there it’s going to be you two. Enjoy.

Sounds awesome. I've mostly fished block in the spring and when i have fished it in the fall (late sept) it's been abysmal. Would love to hear a recap of this trip when you're back. All the stories of late falls many moons ago always have me thinking maybe it's worth a shot. Enjoy and post pics!

No. But the bubble weed and the rocks on the Block "eat" plugs.

Mike, I have done the Nov trip for probably 35 years. Sometimes with Oakley and Spencer. Sometimes with a whole bunch of guys. 2006 we had probably 30 of the best surfcasters in NE on the island at one time. The last few years it's been me alone. I like the solitude. I like the lack of pressure to catch and produce.
This year I will be there for 3 nights. One of those nights I will fish with DZ. The rest I will wander alone. I'll be 74 when I hit the Island this year and it may be my last. We will see.
