great underwater footage of tog, scup, sea bass

this fisherman used an underwater drone in Long Island Sound, to film the bottom fishing under his boat.

very cool stuff.

when i’m blackfishing, i typically set the hook hard the first instant i feel
anything. i’m wondering if that’s a bad idea given what i see in this video.

I love how that larger fish just bullies in to take the jig.

It's usually pretty clear up top when a big girl grabs your jig, sometimes when the feed is good, the hits are really hard. I remember maybe three years back a friend and I were into a great bite on Ribbons around Halloween and every time we chummed a small container of legs and small halves over the side, the big ones hit our baits hard before they even hit bottom, it was insane. Got my personal best that day an 11lber, which damn near pulled me out of the boat, completely different battle when you get to double digits.

I had a monster blue knock 3-4 mid teen ones out of the way like bowling pins to take a Roberts plug. East Beach MV, sometime in the 90s, easily the toughest fight a fish ever gave me, and I wrestled 40# bass out of the Wasque rip back in the old days. Probably over 20#. It was the day after the Derby ended (of course ) so it got to swim away.
