sad but stupid.
Those two girls who left the cape on sat to kayak to Nantucket and never came back.
Now it was blowing pretty good sat. out of the NW and to kayak from the cape I know what went thru those girls minds...(who were from from NY and MD)...Gee... it doesn't look bad lets go for it! They got 4 miles off and it got bad fast and got into trouble when they tried to turn back. I heard they found their kayaks upside down tied together but did not find them. I know it is sad they are gone but they were stupid for even thinking about kayaking to nantucket from the cape in oct at least without a saftey boat.

I read the article in the Cape Cod Times, and it seems as though they were more victim to the fog than anything else. It can get so thick over there it scares me even though I gots the GPS. They weren't heading to Nantucket, and were just out for a ten minute paddle, got caught in the fog, the wind and currents blew them out. I spend A LOT of time on the water in those parts, and it can get mighty sketchy around there in a good sized boat let alone a kayak. In fact, we tried to get out to that area on Saturday, got a quarter mile out of the river, and everyone on board was like "let's turn this bad boy around". And this was on a 25 Grady.
I do feel horribly for the families as this is a tragedy. What is more, one of the families has already been through similar times. I do no envy them.
From the Cape Cod Times: Mary Jagoda, a Brandeis University student, is the couple's only surviving child. They lost their son, Jake, who worked for the investment banking firm Cantor Fitzgerald, in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

I did not see the paper..on the radio they said they were headed to Nantucket. (which seems dumb to me). The radio also said the boats were found off of monomoy.

Lets not speak poorly of them because of their error in judgement, once in a while don't we all do something that might be considered a little dangerous just to catch fish? Think about it! Such a shame. Condolences to the families.

For such a long trip...
1) They should have paid attention to the WX forecast.
2) They should have had a waterproof marine band radio.
3) They should also have had a waterproof handheld GPS to radio their location when they got in trouble.

Channel seven reported that one body has been found off of Monomoy, in the Channel. I am praying they both had floatation on so that the other one might be found as well.
Sad but Stupid!
Might never happen with the weather they are forecasting tomorrow.
