Fireline

How does the Fireline work for bait casting? I was thinking about purchasing a few hundred yards of 50 lb. test. Is this good or should i get something else?

From what I've heard about Fireline is that once you have had the slightest backlash or twisted mess, you are done. Alot of people do like it though...

A lot of people lik eit on spinners. Don't know anybody using it on conventionals but I'm sure there are. Suppose to be really good on spinners for throwing eels into the wind.

Hi there striperman, I have been using fireline for about 2 years now and love it. I use it on my spinning reel though. Here are some of the pro's and cons. It has the best sensitivity of any line I have ever used, there is no stretch at all so when you set the hook it is all over for the fish. My hook up ratio to a spin caster with mono is far greater, about 8 to 1, this could be because it is less visible in the water or because you feel everything, I mean even the smallest piece of grass. One of the biggest problems is that after a while the coating that is on the line will wear off and the line becomes much lighter which causes it to knot easily in the wind, and when you get a knot it is pretty much all over, you will have to recut and re-tie. Sometimes you will get lucky with the knot and be able to pull both sides of the line and the knot will come out but usually not the case. When the line is spooled on the reel for the 1st time you need to put it on quite tight so that the line will not wrap under itself or the spool will be mushy and cause you problems later. I use only 20lb test on my spinning gear, but would recommend the heavier 50lb line for baitcasting, I don't think that backlashes will be the problem as much as wind and wear, because the line packs itself on different that mono. If you are going to use the line, you need to be careful and keep an eye on your top guide on your rod, I did have the line cut the inside of the tip after taking alot of fish last year, but if you have a hard alloy guide on your tip then you won't have to worry about it. I also tried that new line Whiplash this year and all I can say is don't waste your money, the good thing about it is that it will not wear like the fireline, but it is too light and knots alot!!!! So its not worth the money or agrevation, hope these suggestions help, I don't use anything else even though it may run a little more money that the mono. One other thing is that you do not have to re-tie hardly ever and don't have to worry about your line getting scraped up on the rocks, this line is tough and will take alot.
