Advice on plugs, plastics and lures for newby

I just started surfcasting last year, just split w/the gf so im looking to do some hardcore surfcasting this season! Im looking for some plugs and lure, etc that produce, also any tips on fishing them is appreciated. Im taking a charter with joe lyons, hope to learn a lot from him. Any other vets that would be interested in going to a spot or two and schooling me would be greatly appreciated. I fished behind my job at oceancliff and brenton point and all over narragansett this past season with a lot of fish hauled in but nothing over 17-18 lbs, mostly all in october early november.

Thanks

remind me in the spring and I'll show you the ways of the river mouth...
get some waders though... ones that go up to your armpits.

you get a 5 gallon bucket with an aerator bubbly thingy and that will get you down to the water. once there you pour the herring in a finemesh basket with a donut around it so it will float. Then tie the basket to your wader belt. if you leave them in the bucket, the water will heat up and they will die.
