what metal lip swimmer handles fast moving water the best? in other words, will stay closer to the top or at least not dig to the bottom, and not roll or flip over?
is there any way to change these charactoristics with lip and/or weight placement? or making a wider rear over the thinner profile tail like normal?

you def. need a swimmer lip, a surfster/colorado blade lip will just pop out of the water.
You could slug the rear end slightly for a slower wobble and a slug in the center will help keep the lip from popping out while swimming.
This is a great sit. to use danny lips, where the width of the lip from a pikie may cause the plug to swim wildly and pop n' skim.
Its all conjecture until you throw it in the water tho

used both in very heavy currents, they did fine without hanging on the bottom (a little care has to be taken on the retrieve).

I am with WeeWee. The Beachmaster Cowboy and any Gibbs Deep diving Danny you might be able to find. Also, the Beachmaster Atom-like Swimmer ( the medium size one) goes under very well to about ten feet. Magna Strike Predator as well.

several surfster type plugs i made last fall hold quite well in fast current, they swim about 3-5 feet down. could get them to pop out even if i tried. i tested them in an inlet on LI thC:\Documents and Settings\Dad\My Documents\My Pictures\lure\lure3.jpge black one and the blue one both swim sub surface

Justplugit, only got to use once on my last trip to LI,out of about a dozen i made that black one had the best action. i will give it a good work out next season. along with some of its clones that are in the works.

that weirdo with night vision is reported to be following the Cape boys around from what i hear. i wear my plug bag on my belt, hope you got a reel that can handle a 210lb Fish with a NY attitude. i am marking my map with all the places i want to hit this spring out on the island

Conrads are good in moving water. The extra weight makes em' dig real nice.
