When do the first herring show up in the canal?

Ive been lurking around the site for a few weeks now. After fishing the ditch for about 9 years with very marginal success i finally figured it out a bit last year. I live in Sturbridge so it was getting expensive rolling down there to the east end 3 times a week. When do the first herring start showing up? Are the bass very far behind them? I cant wait to get out there again. Great site.

Third week of April, April 24, 25 around there.
Earliest I ever caught a keeper (30" fish) in the canal was May 5

earliest I ever got a 36" fish was around May 14-15

Herring (and bass) show real good the second and third weeks of May
