1884 u.s. SPRINGFIELD
what's up
I have a 1884 US springfield 45/70 cal. blackpowder in near mint condition, how much do you think it's worth, I have somewhat of an idea but any input would help  |

Is it a 2 band or a 3 band? Does the triger pull stil work? Will it hold against triger pull in the half cock position? I have been a Civil War reenactor for 8yrs and have lots of exp with old guns. I should be abil to nail a price for you.

on the barrel their will be an o ring that is called a barrel band, it holds the barrel to the wood stock. A long arm will have 3 a short arm will have 2. Also does it still have the ram rod and if so does it go all the way dodn the barrel? It is not uncommen to find them still loaded.

2 band.. the ram rod goes all the way down... i have had 4 custom bullets made for it 45/70 hollow point  |

Ok being VERY conservative as I am at work and don't have the proper resources with me I would say between $800 and $1200 depending on the condition, exterior is only a small part of it the 2 most important things are the guts under the lock plate and the rifling inside the barrel. I am not sure about the Caliber as this is a little later than the time period I specialize in, first thing that comes to mind is a 58cal ( .57753 to be exact ) I will do some research about it. Does it have a serial # ? If you would like to live fire it and need help let me know, I have a BLAST with my 1862 C.S. Richmond.

Ok Link here goes
I have been making calls and doing research on this and have come up with a price without providence ( documented history ) of between $1450 and $2100 depending on the condition. If you have providence you can add 25 to 40 % to that. I tried to find the serial # with no luck but I have a friend of mine looking at some other records so he may turn something up for you. If he can I will have him print it off and I will mail it to you, It will add some value to the gun if he can find anything.

hi KL, the only stuff I have on this guy is a cane presented to him by a group of men in Cambridge ma. all gold top and hand tooled dated Nov. 19, 1875 , he was a Alderman in Cambridge, ma. I also have a book of the american art review printers copy signed to him same date 1800's his name was Michael Corcoran.
