Nothing attracts a P'Town Striper like a "Brown Eye"....just make sure you wash your hands after getting that needle back..

Well i bought some of the belly grommets from salty, the holes are 5/16 i think. I drilled the holes on the needles big enough, but when i dry fit the grommet, it looked too big for the plug.
Do you guys bend a curve into the grommets? is it just that the needles are so small in diameter? Will the smaller 3/16 tail grommets i bought work? They seem so small that they would keep the swivel from moving freely.

I know what ya mean. I usually counterbore the same dia as the O/D of the grommet flange first then drill the hole. Makes a nice flush fit.
Others here probably have better plans.

Good Start!
Just another newbie here, but I'd say no grommets on the needles, upgrade the size of your swivels, and drill the hole one size up from the barrel. I had to use grommets on 2 of my first ones, 'cause I screwed up on drilling the swivel hole , I just drilled bigger and used the grommet, and yes I rolled the edges to the curve of the plug.
Like the shape on your poppers, keep a spinning!

Surfster - do you just drill the counterbore with a regular drill?
Karl - how did you roll the edges?
BTW - the silver/green popper is made out of mahogany, the rest are white cedar

Use a pair of pliers and shape the grommet taking care not to kink it. Then put grommet in and finish shaping with a small hammer. Just be careful not to miss the grommet and hit the plug.
