Where are the Macks

I'd like to take a few youngsters out for some mackerel fishing this weekend. I'd like to be sure to run into them thick if possible. Any suggestions on where on the coast the middle of the migration would be around this weekend. Would you say Cape Ann? Further north? Further south?

Thanks for the tips in advance!

Sounds like they are thick down there. Anyone catching any up as far as Cape Ann or the outside the mouth of the Merrimack?

They have to be up there now. I usually head out to 40+ feet of water. I like the big Sabikis or the silver mylar mac rigs. I use a 3-4 oz diamond jig for the weight. Drop it right to the bottom jig a couple of times reel in 2 feet jig a couple of times again and continue till you reel it in, then start over. You'll find out what depth the macs are at and you will probably get some cod near the bottom.. Good luck!!

Merrimack River report

Plenty of schoolie bass in the river....reports of guys catching 80-90 a day on flies.

Mackeral are being caught just outside the mouth in about 40-50 foot line all the way down Plum Island and north toward salisbury Beach.

A fellow marina customer also caught 40 legal haddock in one hour at a spot near the "PRONG" on Jefferies Bank (about 22nm out). He was the only boat in the area
