Primary Radio Channels and Frequencies

Weather channels--------------------------- WX1,2,3,&4

Hailing channel [initial contact only]------------------------09
In certain areas 16 is still used as a hailing channel!!! Around here coast guard will tell you to go to ---09

Working channels for non -commercial boats---------68,69,71,78,
Alot of your whale watch boats use --78

Ship to ship only---------------------------------------------72

Navigational Channels----------------------------------13 & 67

Bridge to bridge------------------------------------------ 13
Channel 13 is also used for inland waters [habors & rivers & lakes] for maneuvering arangements such as when passing another vessel!!!

Distress- Safety- calling-----------------------16

A power driven vessel of 20' or more in length must comply with the radio regulations!!!

Are we going to remember all that????

I know I'm not!!!!

don't forget. if your radios on, and you aren't "actively comunicating" with another vessel, the law says you must moniter 16 or 9.
just like radar. if you got it, it's supposed to be on, in all conditions.

On many occasion while waiting for the bridge to go up, sometimes 20 minutes some person comes along side in a fancy boat and ask !! What channel do you call the bridge on??!!! " DURRRRRR!!!!!!!" Why do they even have a boat????

And the other thing that gets me is those that don't know that the out bound river traffic has the right of way!!!!!
