Charters
I'm going to be doing a charter soon. Anyone know what is the customary tip for mate (and/or Capt.)? It's a $600, 8-hour charter.
Just wanna do the right thing.

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

15% or more (depending on how you feel) is customary.

Is that for both mate and captain? 15% each? split? sorry I'm dumb on the subject.

Generally speaking a tip is 15- 20% to the mate of the total cost of the trip!!!! In most cases this is the only money that the mate recieves!!!! Plain and simple he works for tips!!!

Yep, 15-20%
And tip based on the effort given, not the catch. I've been on trips where we did poorly as far as the catch goes, but the mate was a real hustler and worked his ass off trying. He earned a good tip.

I was a mate for years, avg tip on a $600 charter is $80-100.
90% of the time, tips only go to the mate, you don't have to tip the captian, unless you want to on top of what the mate receives.
