I'm on a 24/7 pager one week every month, it blows, but it pays the bills. Fortunately I can log in from home for afterhours calls. This morning @ 4am was a full file system on openVMS, the night before was a windows issue, the same night was unix problem. I hate the pager, but I hate outsourcing more, so I can't complain to mgmt.

I'm on a call right now, been on it since midnight
The only enjoyment I get is flushing the toilet on the conference call and hearing the rest of the folks snicker

I have used Verizon for many years and I have never wanted to change. They have the best coverage nationwide. Doesn't work when I am in Europe or Asia but I rent a worldwide phone for that.
My recommendation is to go with Verizon.

No boat, back in the suds.

I manage a sometimes incompetent department of 25 and cringe every time my cell rings. Weekends can be brutal. I am also salary but make sure I get comp out every minute I do over 40 (usually when the tide is just right!)

I hate that sinking feeling in my chest every time the phone rings.
2:00 AM the phone ....Ring! Hello........" hay, buddy I hate to wake you up but.............." so here i am still half asleep, trying to trouble shoot a problem over the phone, it could be just about anything, electrical, hydraulic, controls, mechanical, pnumatic, steam, chilled water...........It's amazing how people lose their ability to explain problems over the phone sometimes. So i haul my sorry a** out of bed and head to the plant, take care of the problem , sometimes it's pushing a start or reset button .....head home and back again at 7:00 AM and do it all over again. 24/7-365, salary,no comp time, and every year i give up vacation time that i dont have time to use. And yes i get called during my vacation too. How the heck did i get myself into this?
