Weekend storm prediction
Hi folks, seems the weekend weather forecast in south county and the cape is about to get wacked with high surf from the offshore hurricane. Here's my dilema. I've got the weekend off from work and can drive anywhere between York Maine to Point Judith to fish the surf. What would your recommendations be (without specifics) to the area I should target considering the storm brewing offshore? North shore vs. South shore? Or should I just stay home and rent a movie with the miss's? I don't imagine 10ft+ waves are desired when fishing?

If the seas are as big as they say they are going to be( which I trust is true because I just got back and its getting big and weedy now) I would either fish in estuaries or bays or..rent a movie and stay home, there is plenty of season left!

Be carefull what you read in those forecats, that offshore storm is producing big swells, it really makes the fishing difficult and stirs up the weed and junk, tommorow night would be a better option than tonight, Styeve and I got to our spot last night and could not fish right, He went home (smart) and I went and try a protected outflow with no luck.

Head down to any of the local tackle shops, they will be able to help. There is a map of certain well known spots in the canal. They will give you a good start.
Read this topic on the Canal. Great post by Mike P.

Thanks folks for the input. Todays forecast for the next day or two seems to have south facing beach's rocking and rolling. I think fishing estuaries or bays seems like the ticket, perhaps the merrimack since I've yet to fish there this year. I'd hate to drive all the way to RI just to have to turn back. I guess I'll wait for a weather update tonight. Happy cow hunting to all.

Southeast facing beaches tonight will be the most dangerous.
Southwest tomorrow during the day.
Sunday looks "ok" currently.

Water was very clear and hardly any weed this morning when i came in at 430, swell subsided big time at high tide. Just had to figure out how to get my eel behind the breaking waves and i did all right. Going out now to town beach to check out the surf, ill snap a few pix if its huge.

The Elizabeths
I'm planning on fishing the Elizabeth Islands (Quicks and Robinsons) Saturday morning. Right now they're forcasting 2 footers and subsiding through the day to 1-2 foot.
I'm in a 19 foot CC....any problems?
|
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Quicks and Robinsons takes special handling when the chop kicks up. Get your reports before heading out. Good-luck!

I'm hooked up and ready to go, some of my best and yes most dangerous fishing, is with big swells breaking on offshore ledges. I watch them for a long time, like a surfer reading the break, slowly working closer and closer to get those casts in close. Been vertical a few times, taken a few over the bow, but hey I like the thrill rides at the parks too .

I've found that some of the best fishin is in big swells caused by off shore hurricans.

I swam & rode the waves at Narragansett Beach today and the swells were big and there was an unbelieveable amount of weeds in the water. I cancelled my fishing plans tonight.

During those offshores I have also seen some good fish.
But getting the good rip is hit or miss.
And there is usually a pile load of guys down there with you.
