Marking your wire

This year, I plan to start getting into trolling wire. It seems to be the best producer for daytime results, even if it's not the most sporting way to fight a fish. I got a couple of Penn 113H outfits for christmas, and plan on trolling parachutes mostly. The question is, how do you guys mark the wire to acheive the desired depth?

Colored elctrical tape every 50ft. Or just use one color just remember to count'em each time. So people have a hard time remembering to do that. I'm not sure but I thought they sold monel or something that was pre-marked. Maybe just leadcore is . I either do it in the street or a field. Someone on here ,might have a more ingenious way to put it on. I have a friend that loads it on a spare 2lb spool and uses a line counter as he puts it back on the reel. I would definitely premark it though, better than trying to guesstimate

Another good way is to wrap in small peices of colored phone wire every 50'. Al Lorenzetti has a tape out called trolling for Bass and Blues that covers this very well. It works great stays on the wire and you can feel it at night and count out the colores in the dark. Have you used lead core at all I find it easy to use and the fight is better than on wire? Good luck

MArking Wire

One of the best ways to mark wire line is to use dental floss. Just braid the floss oround the wire, about 1 inch is fine (just like braiding hair), each layer color it with an indelable magic marker. I usually put on 3 layers. The great thing about the dental floss is that it does not slip, lays relatively flat on the reel and travles through the guides nicely. You can also feel the lump of dental floss at night while letting out the wire line.

Hope this helps,
