A weighty danny question

Back in Nebe's thread on his herring dannies, there has been a very interesting and educational discussion on wobble vs roll in dannies (at least for me). From what I got out of it, with two belly hooks, the plug wobbles more and rolls less. One belly hook = more roll and you want wobble.... I was wondering, is the second hook adding a keel effect? Or is it the added weight of the hook and swivel at a critical spot on the plug? Do you think that with an equivalent belly weight of the belly hook and swivel located at the same location as the second belly hook that the plug would wobble more or still roll like before? Time to experiment I guess....

John, the rear belly hook acts as a keel. There are drawbacks to that rear belly trebble, as i learned last season, bass tend to foul themselves on it, so it is mandatory that you crimp the barbs.

As for more lead to equal it out, i was planning on trying that once i get done with all my owesies... The thing is you have to account for how far off the center of balance the hook is compared to a belly weight- you would have to use alot of lead. On my one hook dannies, i move the front hook back about an inch and also move the weight back a bit too... if you dont, the danny starts acting like a pikie, with more tail wiggle.

check your mail.. you should get that plug today or tomorrow.

Sounds like my thinking was going in the right direction... Time to go play! I was thinking about the one hook vs two cause of a few hoooks in the back of the hand this past summer.....

Thanks for the plug. I'll look for it!

Did the saddle arrive?

not yet..

another thing you can do with the single hook is use a bigger hook.. bigger hook = more weight.
