I'm kind of new to this site and would love to learn about the other anglers out there. I'll go first and please feel free to follow...

I'm Capt. David Bitters out of Duxbury, MA. Been a photographer/writer my whole life, and started BAYMEN Outfitters Fly Shop & Guide Service in Duxbury, a few years back. I'm married, I have a wonderful wife and three wonderful kids. WE are active in our local church as time allows. When I'm not "working" 80 hours a week, I'm out hunting or clamming and enjoying family life. I've always tried to turn my passions into my income (not always easy!) and am in the process of expanding BAYMEN Outfitters for the new season at hand.

Now it's your turn tell us about yourself! I'd love to hear from all the regulars and lukers out there. And thanks in advance.

Ok I guess I will break the ice. My name is Bill, I live in Quincy, MA. I am a cableman for the phone co. I am married 8 yrs, no kids yet still practicing. I fish , hunt, shoot, and play hockey. Would like to learn fly fishing, have a 5wt Reddington, and Orvis Battenkill, gift from wife for anniversary last year. I just have no time right now. I just started making my own plugs with the assistance of some of the great crew here. I have been on this site for about a year, and have learned enough to fill a notebook. Thank you to everyone who has taught me something. I hope someday I can teach you guys something too.

Also new to this site,my name is Chris.Im 34 yrs old. I grew up in Pawtucket RI and moved to Charlestown RI 12 yrs ago. I'm married with 2 kids ages 4 and 1. I was an avid freshwater fisherman until I moved to the south shore , been surfcasting ever since .I recently purchased my first boat and cant wait for this season to get rolling. I also play hockey and love to cook.

You can call me Got Stripers, GS, Bob, A**hole or the Big Jerk, because of my love of the big plastic jerkbaits. I fish out of Scituate Harbor most of the time, unless the weather is snotty, in which case I will pop my Lund into the North River or Boston Haba. I love rock and fish the ledges between Scituate and Boston up close an personal under the power of my bow mounted 101 # thrust Minn Kota RipTide trolling motor. Sometimes too close, because as anyone familiar with ledge and rollers will know, those rollers break differently at different stages of the tide. Going vertical, sometimes has a whole different meaning if you fish with me .

My favorite bait is my own 5-1/2 inch split tail plastic jerkbait, fished in what I consider a unique presentation, one not often duplicated by most I see. More detailed information on both are on my webpage, along with a couple jerkbait articles I've written on the subject. Suffice it to say it's a completely different approach to the norm, which is to slap a piece of plastic behind a jighead. Anyone interested in either my baits, the hooks or that approach should look me up at the upcoming MSBA show. I like to tinker with plastic design and various approaches to fishing them, because I don't think anything comes as close to the real thing as a well presented piece of plastic. I'd post the link to my site, but I'm not sure that's fair to the other paid sponsors, so I guess I will have to work out a deal with the boss man .

I've got 3 teenage boys, so it's a wonder I'm not in a corner rocking back and forth, in my stylish white wrap around dinner jacket . Between those 3 clowns, the 4 golden retievers (we breed them, that better John lol) and my wife, who after 21 year of marrage still doesn't get my addiction to fishing, well let's just say I REALLY ENJOY my days out on the water. I've met some great people on this board and every one of them is a class act, well not all but let's not use the "P" word, in fact I had a good time fishing today with yet another freshman to my world.

I look forward to another season and meeting some of the new members on the board. I hope that we all have a banner year and let's all hope the stocks are better than the last couple seasons, tight lines.

The name is Bruce or you can call me by my board name slipknot. That's not after the knots I tie but after a song by the Grateful Dead, since I was a deadhead before I started surf fishing. I always fresh water fished for LM bass and trout but about 8-9 years ago I started going after stripers and blues and it's been about 5 years since I've trout fished. I am a cabinetmaker looking for a less physical career so I can spend more time abusing my body surfcasting for stripers instead. I am married with 2 kids. I have been enjoying plug making recently but I'm not sure it is saving me any money from buying plugs, since the supplies and stuff costs so much, but it's fun. I mostly fish the Cape Cod Canal since it is about 20 min. from my home in Middleboro, MA. But I will fish the beaches of the cape and sometimes RI. I have met and fished with a ton of excellant people from this site, I even run into them at fishing shows sometimes. I have learned alot from the site also. I used to have a hole in the water that I poured money into but it's gone now thankfully.
I hope to fish a few new places each year to broaden my horizons. But I really love to jig the Ditch.

Capt. Dave I am also new to the site just 2 months now. Most here call me GB or Greg. I am 46 VERY happily married for the past 27 years. Have two great children boy-girl twins now 23 and off on there own mostly . Have not done alot of saltwater fishing for the past 18 years as we put all our time into the kids. We have a family house on Cuttyhunk that I had not been to for 18 years till this past fall when my wife bought me a 18.5 cc seaswirl boat so I could get back into my fishing and start to spend some time on the island. I have met alot of the guys from the site at some shows and a reel fix at Slips house.I hope to pick their brains as much as they will let me till I can get back up to speed with all the new ideas and ways to fish these days. I sell lumber to contractors on job sites and love it ( great way to meet new friends and places to hunt and fish) Oh ya I also have been bow hunting deer for the last 10 years. GS was kind enought to take me on a trip to the THAMES river in CT. last week for some great striper action. Cought my first taged bass and had a great day.(thanks again BOB) John has a good gang here and I hope to meet most at one fish derby or another. SEE you there?

Hey Dave - welcome to S-B... I'm John Redmond, 34, creator of this finely oiled machine , recently moved from Mass to Rhody. I'm married to a wonderful lady for almost 3 years now and we have a 15 month old baby boy, Liam - whoose third word was boat .

The job in Boston that pays the bills is officially called IT Projects Manager, but basically I get to do some fun stuff and a lot of LSJ's...

I do 95% of my damage from shore at night but I'm currently looking for a project 20-23 Seacraft (like nobody else is either ). I truly enjoy the surf and water and have gone from shooting darts at the bars 6 nights a week to a six pack every 6 weeks - beautiful thing ... I am very fortunate to have been taught A LOT from a few sharpies but I also realize that I have a way to go before I can become one myself...

Unlike GS - my wife understands why I fish but still isn't jumping for joy about my, uhh, mild obsession

Hey Captain, I'm a newbee myself. My freinds call me Tony, 34,married with 3 kids and love it. Great idea (introduction),wish I had thought of that. I love fishin, huntin and do a little rod building for family and freinds. I've gotten great advice from the fish heads on this site. I'm lookin forward fishin with them some day. I grew up fishin but started chancing bass after getting out of the service in 91. I fish mostly from sakonnet pt., RI. to the ditch. Hi Cap, welcome aboard. I'm Bob, obviously, and am a college prof. by trade. I'm a pilot, model airplane freak, and "dawn patroller," as I crawl the rocks and beaches from Conimicut to Weekapaug primarily during the wee hours of the mornings until after daybreak. I just turned 60, have been married to a great non-fisher woman for 34 years, have 3 physically (at least) grown kids and 3 wonderful grandkids.

I'm mostly into plugs, pastics, and flies, make my own, and am always building another "best distance casting rod ever made by humankind," that just never quite measures up to expectations. I'll occasionally toss live things, but much prefer artificials because they don't smell!

I've learned an unbelievable amount from the great people who populate this site, and am always trying to find out about the stuff they don't give out publicly!!

Don't be afraid to ask questions; SOMEone will have the answer.

Hey, there!!!! I'm Steve....duh?....was born in Boston, but grew up in NJ. Moved to Quincy after I got out of college in 1984, then moved to Foxborough in 1990. Have spent a lot of time fishing down your way at PP, at first on the bridge, but more recently have abandoned that structure for the most part and usually keep my feet in the sand at various places at PP. Over the past couple of years have expanded my horizons to other places in Mass and a lot in Rhody, though I'm still just learning about that state. (That could take decades!!!!)

Take a road trip back to NJ three or four times a year in April/May and again in Oct/Nov/Dec to fish down there. Go to Hatteras once a year in late June/early July for two weeks....granted, that's not the best fishing season down there, but it's our vacation and I keep myself occupied with small blues, spanish mackeral, speckled trout, and crabbing. Hoping to get a cobia down there sometime soon.

Fished with some guys here, and everyone one of them, as was said, are real class....made two of the four outings last year (of course it was the two that most everyone got the skunk!!)

Live with my "wife" (okay, we're not technically married, for financial reasons - see the "Tax Time" thread ) of twenty years come December, and our "Sultry" dog, part husky, part shepard, and part wolf (really!!!!).

Since 1985, worked as production manager and chemical/plant engineer at a company that makes air pollution control catalysts, but was laid off about a month ago, which gives me a ton of time to fish this spring!!!

Other than fishing, I like gardening (vegetables mostly, but learning with the flowers), cooking, and golf, even though I haven't played in about a year and a half.......priorities you know (read: fishing!!!)

You aren't, by the way, the guy that opened up the small tackle/fly fishing shop near Snug Harbor, are you?

Hi all! My name is Eugene Chang. I'm 36, and live in Boston. I live with the love of my life, Jamie (we are happily unmarried!)who luckily shares my love for the beach and surf fishing! I grew up in PA and like Slipknot (I wondered about the name) was a big dead head growing up, going on tour as soon as I got my drivers license at 16 (that could be a whole story in itself - my travels or sometimes travails (sp?)with the dead ). While in PA, I also became an avid freshwater bass fisherman. After I graduated from college I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time fishing Lake Champlain in VT targeting mostly Northern Pike and both LM and SM Bass. I moved to Boston it seems many moons ago and just recently(past three years)got into saltwater fishing(I don't know what took so long! ). After my first striper I can honestly say, I'm hooked for life! It's pretty funny to me how a dedicated very conservation minded freshwater angler could be so completely converted to the salt! There is just something so majestic about being on the edge of the continent, rod in hand fishing for these magnificent creatures we all dream about (well the canal is pretty cool too although I know next to nothing about it compared to most of you guys). My goal this year is to learn as much as I can to help me become a better angler and hopefully share some tidbits of mine on the way.

Hi, my name is Barry, I am new to the boards, but have been browsing for awhile. I live in Framingham, married and have two kids a boy 8 and girl 3. I am a teacher and also coach soccer and lacrosse. I have been surf fishing the last 5-6years and really getting into it the last year. I do most of my fishing on Cape Cod and have been going to the canal quite a bit he last few years. I finally broke down and made a canal bike last fall. This year I hope to get a new Mitchell Nautil and try out some braid for bucktails and "rubba". I also freshwater fish for bass. This past year have been trying flyfishing for trout and I am learning to tie flies. I hope to add more some more posts and meet some of you all at some "flings" . I also enjoy golf and moutain biking. Like most of you, I can never seem to get enough fishing stuff (although my wife thinks I have plenty already) .

OK, here goes. Just registered, long time lurker.
I've been married 19 years now, I think We have 2 kids 14 and 8.
With the exception of an occasional atlantic salmon, steelhead trip and winter icefishing I mainly fish the salt waters of RI.
Surf/Fly cast during the week and try for one day in the upper bay on the weekends in the boat (17ft montauk). Wife doesn't mind me going fishing even though she has little interest in it.
Been working on my fly tying in my spare time and really want to start making some plugs.
Just getting ready for my yearly trip to the Bahamas for bonefishing, funny my wife doesn't mind that trip. I was just tying up some super secret, 007, gotcha variants to try this time. Hope they work better than last years plain old, 007, gotcha variants!
This is a great board and I have learned tons here. Hopefully I can add some input here and there.

My name is Sal, but go by Sammy on the sight, like some of the others, I am also a realative new comer to the web site. I may be one of the few who doesnt live in the Boston area though.
I do all of my fishing on the Long Island Sound right on the CT/NY border. I'm 33 yrs old, married to a wonderful lady for 10 yrs and have two gorgeous little girls who all make me as happy as could be. My wife doesn't fish at all but both she and the girls love being on the water which is the next best thing!

I've been fishing the Western LI Sound for at least 20 yrs now, but the past couple have been my most enjoyable. I discovered Saltwater Fly Fishing about 6 yrs ago but spent most of last season really studying the art. I tie my own flies, build my own rods and spend any free time I have getting ready for the next time I can get out to fish. IT'S LIKE A DISEASE!!!!!!!!!

There's always an open invitation to anyone interested to do some Striper fishing if you're down in this area. I always got room for fellow Fly Rodders aboard.

There's a little bit of everthing around here, rocks, sand bars, surf rips, flats, etc. even when the fish aren't cooperative it's never dull.

I'm new to this board too, but I cruise a lot of the other fishing and boating boards pretty regularly. My name is Gordon, I'm 35, married (9 years) with twin 5 year old boys and I live in the part of Newbury, Mass. away from the water - Byfield. I went to Westborough High School and I have a BA from UMass Amherst and an MBA from Salem State College, I work as a manager in information systems for MFS Investment Management in Boston.

I just started saltwater fishing about 3 years ago, I lived as a little kid in Minnesota and I did plenty of fishing there, but took about 20 years off before picking up a rod again. My goals for this year are to take up fly fishing and (hopefully) to buy a boat. Now that my boys are getting bigger I am searching for a good family friendly craft to ply the waters of the Merrimac and around Plum Island.

My name is Jim, I'm married with two boys 3yrs and 1yr old. I've got my Captains Licence (6pk), but I don't use it yet. I'm listed on the other boards with the same userid. I fished up till mid december last year and I like all types of fishing from sunfish in a pond with the boys to flyfishing for bonitos off Falmouth (I've never caught one yet, but I drift/troll/cast whatever it takes trying to get one). My favorite fishing is live lining herring or macks or any live bait.
Fly fishing is right up there too though, I might take you up on some thursday Dave, right now my flys look like inbred offspring, but the stripers and blues don't seem to mind.
Dave I've been on one of your shoreline guided trips, I had the skunk with me that day, but all the spots you showed and marked on my chart have been very successful since, thanks.

Our first Tournament? Well, last year we had our first two part tourney on S-B. Several shops including M&D's/capecodtackle.com in Wareham and Weekapaug B&T/weekapaug.com in Westerly RhoDylund donated rods & reels - very nice stuff too - for prizes in our C&R 4 Leg Tourney (Hab's where are Tony's plugs ). We did stops in June on the Cape, July in Rhody, and September on the Cape & October in Rhody where everyone got together, burnt some burgers and then went off in groups to catch & release fish. It was a lot of fun even though no state fishing records were threatened . There was also a year long which could be C&R if you fished with another established forum member or a weigh in slip from a few supporting shops... One of the founding fathers of this site, Saltheart, went out of his way and donated a sweet Loomis Jigging Canal stick for the biggest Ditch Fish... Again - had a lot of fun and met some pretty cool people... Biggest fish for the C&R was 42.5 inches and the biggest year long entered was 32.5 pounds/45 inches - and trhese were all shore fish... This year I'd like to get a boat division as well...

This year we are going to do the 4 leg again and as a special bonus, a dozen of us have been invited by GB to fish Cuttyhunk for a weekend - WOOOHOOOOO!!! - Can't tell I'm excited by that, eh? But all of these Tourneys are really to get the people on the site together, have some fun, and to persue our common denomintator - FISH!

I'm sure we'll have some impromptu get-togethers before then too when we chase the first new arrivals of the year and the awesome annual bluefish invasion off the South Cape

Pretty cool idea... welcome aboard everyone.

My name is Greg and go by "schoolie monster" here on the board. I am an IT guy in VP finance office at Boston U. I provide desktop support for Macintosh and PC's (a little) and more recently, have taken over web development for the unit.

I'm 32, married with a beautiful, healthy 4 year old daughter who's smarter than I am, just ask her. My wife loves to fish herself (though she doesn't go alot) and she supports my fishing habit 100%. In fact, she seems to encourage me to go... I'm not sure what that means for our relationship, but I appreciate it.

I grew up in PA and have been fishing for trout and freshwater bass since I was 4 or 5. As a teen, I fished the BASS local and state tournaments and my dad and I were very successful in the local buddy tournaments. We also made a couple trips to an out-of-the-way lake in Ontario each year. The fall "guys" trip was a tradition of fishing, eating and drinking that my dad started in 1971. Last year was the first year since '71 that we didn't get a group to go.

In college at Penn State, I turned to flyfishing for my fix. I was often late meeting my friends at the bars 'cause I was hitting the local evening sulfur hatch.

Although I loved trout and bass, my mom had brought us to Nantucket 5 or 6 times and I always thought surfcasting for bluefish was the coolest thing I'd ever done. Those fish were so tough and flingin' a big lure into the surf was awesome.

In '94, Karen and I moved to Quincy, MA.

I fished a little bit locally, but knew very little about what was around. I used to walk across the street to a little bay (near the Sportman's Den) and toss bombers with my bass crankin' stick. I caught a few schoolies and even a couple bluefish.

In '97, I met John R and the following year, we started fishing together alot. I learned alot from him and we learned alot together.

Now, I recently purchased a 17' center console and am ready to get crankin' this year. I'm very conservation minded releasing 99% of my catch and really love light tackle fishing with artificials.

This is a great board with some real nice, knowledgeable folks. The people here genuinely love fishing and love to offer help to others. I've learned alot here, especially from John, Fisherwoman and Baitcaster and more recently, Got Stripers. If you get a chance to fish with these guys, don't hesitate.

I continue to have fun and learn here and hopefully can provide info back as I get better and better.

My name is Frank. My board name is swimmer, because I fall off of peoples boats and have to swim back to the boat that is drifting away. Right Jul's. I started fishing for stripers when I was about 11 or 12 years old. I didn't catch any then. It took severals years after that to manage my first one, but it has been a love affair ever since.
Since I narrowed my outside interest down to fishing ( no more golf, no more hunting) my lovely wife or 23 years puts up with just about everything I do pertaining to the sport. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't pass by too many tackle shops before I have to satisfy an urge to buy something new, a plug, a different color bucktail for a fly or a box of hooks to tie the fly on.
As a kid we were very lucky in that our family had a summer place in Eastham about 300 feet from the bay. Spent many nights watching the target ship getting bombed by the weekend warriors. Spent many days clamming and running around with my buddies. I developed a deep love and appreciation for all water related activities, (watching young ladies in small bathing suits, partying every night) like surfing and fishing. I used to see guys walking off the oceanside beaches at night with huge bass slung over their shoulders.
My favorite moment fishing so far was placing first in the Marthas Vineyard SB & Bluefish derby in 1985 with the largest bluefish from shore caught by a non-resident, 17.60 lbs., that I caught ...............oops. But the best and greatest fishing is yet to come. Thats where I met J.R., on the Vineyard, the first year he stayed with Baitcaster and Jul's.
I do have one other passion and thats staring down someone who is trying to tell me I can't park where I am parking because the road is supposedly private and I am alledgedly tresspassing.

My name is Mike Laptew, AKA “The Diving Fisherman” and Fish_Eye @ Striper Talk. I have enjoyed chasing striped bass for more than 4 decades with a mask and snorkel, and for even longer with a rod and reel. I was born and raised in Pawtucket, RI and have been living in North Kingstown for the last 25 years. My wife Donna has put up with my diving/fishing antics for over 26 years and my daughter, Jennifer is a student at UCONN. My German Shepard, Sasha is my shadow and I have a few thousand pet stripers I like to play with each year.

I produce fishing videos that are geared towards obsessive/compulsive anglers (and there are just a few on this site) whether they’re seasoned pros or newcomers to the sport. I have been fortunate enough to travel the globe in my quest to document different fish behavior. The more I travel, the more I learn to respect the fantastic resource we all have at our doorsteps…that’s why I try to protect and preserve our fragile marine environment through active support of Save The Bay and the Recreational Fishing Alliance.


I am all ears to any suggestions on how to improve my video productions and always anxious to learn new tips and techniques for catching fish…that’s why you’ll find me on this board.

my name is bob, 44, happily married (most of the time) 14 years to a beautiful and understanding wife and have two beautiful daughters 10&12. the whole family likes to fish, but are not as addicted as your truly.
i have lived in westport, massachusetts all my life so far, cept for a stint in the air force in the mid 70's. Started fishing saltwater when i was nine and the first fish i caught was a 6 lb. tog off of stone bridge. i fished commercially for 12 years for red crabs and ran the boat for the last five years. we fished the edge of the continental shelf in 400 fathoms, hauling and setting traps like lobster pots only a tad larger year round. i quit fishing commercially in 92...no regrets. i currently work as a heavy duty truck mechanic, and am certified in all aspects of the job. i started my own truck refrigeration business about 2 years ago and have 2 solid accounts. i just havn't had the balls to venture out on my own yet.
as for fishing ..can't get enough of it. my primary species is striped bass. and there is nothing like sitting on a beach on a hot starry summer night and hearing your drag go off, or the tap on your eel.

OK..... my name is Peter you can call me Rags. I got my handle from tying big RAG type FLIES. I am a Senior Equipment Engineer for National Semiconductor. I am a member of team ledge lizards.........where we fish the rocky coast of Maine. I also have a boat that is used as well. I am a fly fisherman who the past 3 years started using hardware (tennis elbow from fly fishing to much). I am a diehard outdoorsman. My mother told me once there was more to life than just fishing and I replied yeah there is hunting too! My second passion is bird hunting. I train my own dogs, right now I have a German shorthair pointer. I also deer and turkey hunt.

I am married 11yrs, one son 3 yrs old and he already has a fishing rod and tackle box. Guess what we are doing this summer!

Hey Guys,
My name is Rick and I have a big fishing problem.
I'm a managing partner in an upstart restaurant group which just opened our first location in Needham, MA. I work, work, work and also work. Luckily for me, we chose to start this venture in the early winter, so May and striper season look mighty appealing to me right now.
I grew up in Granby, MA (this is when everybody says "Where?"), but spent lots of timefishing salt in and around Napatree, Rockport, and the Cape as a kid.
I have a BA from UMass, and an AOS from the CIA in Hyde Park, NY where I spent countless hours fishing for stripers on the Hudson, but only catching a buzz.
I spent a short stint in Whitehouse, NJ working for free in one of the nations greatest restaurants. After three weeks, I relocated to Waltham to make some money in normal places.
Anyhow, I'm married with no kids yet, and recently inherited a 24' Formula that is going to get very fishy this year. I love fishing the Cape in May, Rockport after that, and Naps in the fall. Funny how I still fish the places I did as a kid.
I love being the in Eastern part of the state, although I despise Waltham, and that's all I have to say about that.
