I should of avoided this place like the plaque!

I just looked back and spent about 3 hours looking this site over.
Now, I feel the fever coming on!
Judging from what I've been reading here,,,,,,,,, I've a whole ton of learning to do on fishing the salt with the flyrod.
Most my experience with fly has been fresh water. Have done some salt,, but not overly sucessfully.
First things first. I see some of you are using big 4-6" flies(?). I've not even seen any that big!
Living near the Charlestown Breachway, can someone point me in the right direction for a source of these flies? I gather that an 8-10 weight rod is ample for these and have that covered,,,,,,,,, sorta.
Think tomorrow I'll go and practice my "wind knots"!
Danged!!! Cabin fever with a dose of spring fever is making me itchy.
Any neighbors on here by chance?

www.aswf.com to get good fly ideas and tying movies of easy to... 'hollow' flies a nice striper pattern that gives a large profile, but not the weight one might associate with them...slinging lines into surf means winds so I went to fullsink to 'break wind' or you can go intermediate line [slow sink] to get under waves but easier to cast as you dont have to roll cast it onto the surface like a full sinker.....I started alternating between the 'clouser' [a sinking fly ] to deceivers, bunker patterns, eels, poppers for topwater action , crease flies [folded floating foam ].
a striping basket is a must due to rocks n waves N wind ...the rod of choice shoud be stiffer action so you can get line speed and rod strength to pick up line AND a wet big fly....these are the common reasons for surf upgrades to bigger rods and line choice, but thats me

note; modern synthetic materials for surf flies dont hold water so arent really that heavy to sling ....

oh and if you dont tie try www.saltwaterflies.com

Archer, not sure about posting names of shops so theres a place in the middle of Wakefield that should have what your looking for. Close by too! Up the road a way in East Greenwich is a place that sells a lot of Dartons that could definatly straighten you out. I used to be a shooter for Darton and shot 3D every Sunday for 9 yrs, all the way from N.C. to Quebec, till I realized how much fishing I was missing!

You could always learn to tie your own. It's much more rewarding than buying and its not that hard to learn.

Should have been: stripermoon.com Planning a get together on the first Satuday of May at Quonny Pond to work on matching rods and lines so the rod will work for you casting your fly line....

Pops- thanks. Good sites. I printed out some patterns for the bench.

Slinger- Know the places your speaking of. Have a Christmas gift Cert for the one in Wakefield. I went there Saturday and they've moved everything around on me! Fishing gear downstairs, clothing up, and Yaks gear? didn't see it. Probably outside shed?
Darton? Hmmm, I did 3-D for quite awhile mid to late 80's. (Along comes the IBO) practicly lived at the Narr. Bowhunter's Club. Maybe we've met? (I shot stickbows before they became "the fad")
By-the way Slinger,,,, the flyrod I'm having trouble with is from that F&F Ltd shop in N.K. the old original shop. (if I read you right)

Salty Joe- I do tie,,,,, mostly for largemouths and crappy. I did get some good ideas from some sites mentioned here though and itchin to try some. Just gotta push my Muzzleloading stuff off to the side to get to the vice!!!!! (I need more room!)

Thanks guys. I have a feeling it's going to be a good year for me and the salted fly. Hope to meet many of you in May @ Quonny. Do we get name tags? (just kidding)
