Help With I.D.
everyone knows that fishermen are the most intelligent people around. this thing has been in the family for many years after being with another family for over 100 yrs. i think it's bronze with an ornate carved ivory handle. i've posted its pic on some antique sites- and nobody can tell me anything about it- 'cept that it's old --- any ideas????

Here's the response...
"It's Chinese, and it looks bronze from what I can see. Are you sure that it's ivory? It could be bone. If it has striations in the material itself, it's ivory. If not, it's likely bone. It dates circa 1910-1920's and was used for pouring hot liquid, although I don't know what type. That's all I can tell you. Doesit have any enameling on it at all? C.s"

afterhours ?
is the bottom closed in or an open hole...
i have something similar....
and it's definately (i believe anyway) from the orient...
it could be an oil lamp that you carry
or its made to carry a candle...
whats throwing me off is the screw threads at
the tip of the handle part
it as if it was screwed into a threaded hole

i have an ivory one
that has a whole chinese history
carved into it....so that you role it onto a parchment
or on to pottery...
and it makes a scene...
but looking at that, it looks more like the handles designed
to be ornamental yet the threads on the end are the "key"
perhaps it screwed into another part
and the threads helped to lock it in...
