The Island

I'm taking my 1st trip to Block Island tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can fish and possibly catch a big bass. Any info would be helpful, thx.

Check in with one of the two shops - Twin Maples or BI Fishworks, buy some stuff, and ask. Otherwise, it is an island with fish all around. I heard of some good fish there recently but I did not ask where.

The nice thing about Block is you go to the water, find rocks, and cast into them - if there are no fish, move

Day time, tins, and plastics, smaller wood. Nightime, eels, bigger wood, chunk, plastic, ect....

The conditions since last Saturday have been awful. Monsoons muddied the waters up pretty badly - all runoff from the beaches. Then the surf picked up, spreading it around. 5 days later it's still not cleared - amazing it was just from rain.

I think you'll find cleaner water from Ballards to the shute, on the northern stretch of Mansion beach past the first set of rocks, and along the north end from Grove point all around and down to the dump. That's about it right now. SE corner through SW corner are basically out of the question. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Basically the June new moon has been a disaster.

And for the last 2 days the whole place has been in a really thick fog. You can't see the water very well from the stairs on the South side.

I hope it clears for your trip.

Thanks for the help...I just want to see someone pull in a hog. I've never seen anything bigger than 42"...except in pictures. Hopefully the conditions will be better.

It's pouring out again. Time to chuck in the towel and troll the bars instead... toss a little money around, chum up a consolation prize.
