Only one rod for this weeks vacation...which one?

Well I start a weeks plus vacation Thursday night. Will be going to the Cape , doing some barbecue , then sailing to Newport for the Fourth weekend. Then back to work for 2 days and down to Burlingame for camping the following thursday or friday.

Gonna be fishing the Ditch , Southeast Mass shore , RI south shore. Need one rod for everything , She would like it if it were a two piece but she's getting used to the one piece Canal rod rattling next to her head as we drive along.

So , what rod to bring. Last year the decision would have been easy. My 2 piece loomis 1266 is a great all around rod. I have a Calcutta 400 on it now with 35 lb Spectron. It will throw a 4 OZ jig and you can get a bomber out there reasonably well too. Not great but reasonably. For eels its killer.

However , I did build myself an Arra XRA 1205 which I very much like at the Ditch with my BG7000CL and its also very versatile. Gonna be low tide at nigt too and i can really cast that ARRA well when the tide is down and i can swing it freely (no bushwacking like at high tide) Only draw back is its a 1 piece rod (rattling next to her head) . Also I'll want two reels for that rod. The bigger 7000 for the canal and the smaller BG6500CL everywhere else.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Loomis cause its a 2 piecer but would really like the ARRA 1205 for the Ditch which is the first stop. Maybe I'll bring the Arra to the Cape then switch to the Loomis on the way through for the Rhode Island portion of my vacation.

Life is full of difficult decisions! I'll also be faced with such difficult decisions as whether to eat breakfast at "PancakeMan" or "The Egg and I" . I'm not sure I can handle all this decision making pressure.

Maybe I should just cancel the whole vacation and go to work. .. maybe not!!

Bring both the 2 piece (it will hide away fairly well) and the XRA1205 - bring the Calcutta too

Deep six them and go to the Keltic Kitchen - route 28 on the right between the Thunderbird & Bass River (closer to the T-Bird than bassless river )

You need to read Saltheart's "If I needed one rod for everything " thread. I believe HE would recommend the 1266.

Where to eat now there are some difficult decisions best left to others .

The 1205 could ride on the roof till you get out of the truck, thus solving your comfort dilema..

I have eaten at the Keltic Kitchen. Usually crowded on a summer weekend morning though. Very good food there. Popular at night too.

Thanks for the info Chris. I don't think we'll get out that far but maybe.

Fishpart , you just gave me a great idea!. Take the one piecer on the roof. Then its "no you go in the Christmas Tree shop , I'll wait here and watch the rod!".

Things are starting to shape up!

I got this licked for ya. When the rods are in the roofrack, she's in the cab. When the rods are in the cab, she's on the roofrack. Problem solved?
