Forecast- Big Storm on the way...

Could this be the "Blizzard of 07"? I guess we are sorta due....

Statement as of 3:27 AM EST on February 11, 2007

... Confidence is increasing for a winter storm to affect southern
New England...

Low pressure is expected to develop off the Carolinas Tuesday...
then intensify as it tracks northeast. The current forecast brings
the winter storm southeast of Nantucket late Wednesday.

Based upon this track... there is the potential for a significant
accumulating snowfall throughout most of southern New England
beginning late Tuesday night and lasting into early Thursday.

Strong north to northeast winds are also possible... perhaps gusting
as high as 50 mph during the height of the storm late Wednesday and
Wednesday night. These strong winds would be more likely to occur
near the coast.

The combination of strong winds and rapidly building seas could also
lead to minor coastal flooding Wednesday... despite low astronomical
tides.

This winter has certainly featured a lack of snowfall... and as a
result... many people have not become accustomed to driving in harsh
winter weather conditions. Take time now to make sure your vehicle
is prepared.

People in southern New England should be aware of the potential for
heavy snow... strong winds and minor coastal flooding during the
middle of this week. Keep in mind the forecast track may still
change over the next day or two... which could result in more or less
of an impact on the region.

Stay tuned to NOAA all hazards weather radio or your local media for
updated information... or visit the National Weather Service Taunton
website at weather.Gov/Boston.
