Where to get GOOD snag hooks

Anyone know where i can get good snag hooks, like the first one? All i can find are ones like the second one in the pic.

that extra lead makes a big difference when your stuck on the shore.

Wrap some Solder around the shank of hook be if you need extra weight.

What size hook is that? I'd be willing to bet that someone that makes lures and pours their own tail weight would be able to make the same type thing? Maybe..?? Just a suggestion because that lead looks an awful lot like MikeCC's tail weights

I have also seen homemade snag hooks in which wire is wrapped around the shank of a large treble, then looped under the hook and through the eye of a bank sinker. So the bank sinker hangs under the hook. The advantage is you can use as heavy a sinker as you wish and the lead stays out of the way of the hook. Sorry, but I don't have a picture.

the one on the left is about 7/0......the other is 1 or 2 sizes bigger.

i could make my own, but id rather not breathe in the lead fumes if i dont have to.

Fumes shmumes...I've been doing them for 15 years and nothing is wrong with me. Now my son, on the other hand, has 3 eyes...is that bad?

I'll play around and see what happens in case you don't find them. What size hook do you prefer, the 7/0 or larger? I'll have to find some big trebles

Bucko's, Stafford Rd. Fall River has the full lead style.
He has some huge one's
as well.

I just take a 5/0 VMC treble and put a 1/2 -1 oz egg sinker which has been drilled out to 3/16 th inch and split with a hacksaw lengthwise.Spread it with a chisel ,put it around the shank and hammer till tight.If you snag and drop it's the only way to go.

U can use a 2 oz.drail.Casts like a bullet.Somtimes they will foul on the line.Or u can put 2 of the ones on the right on one snap..I do this often..
The problem with more weight is u really got to reel fast to keep it on top.

I found the easiest for me was the pics you have shown, good to have a least one of each. I prefer the second better but the first is better in deeper water. In the cast they realy don't make a difference, country mile is a country mile. I take pliers and open up the gap a bit, that allows you not to snag as hard...not ripping into flesh as much, resulting in less blood lose and also not good for live lining.

I'll be making them soon 1oz 6/0 & 1.5oz 7/0
The ones we make the lead is further back & does not interfear with the barbs like the ones shown.

With very little efford you can throw 2oz's of lead a rediculess distance. When your throwin that far your gonna spend most of the time and energy reeling and snagging. The way I snag is after letting the snag drop a bit I reel steadly not snagging until I feel bumps then snag....if your casting to far your chances of feeling bumps that are not near the snag are good, you'll get burnt out faster and snag less fish.

goose i snag the same way, but these are for the surfbag. Last year i found a decent school of menhaden that hung around a couple weeks, but i could only snag them about 1 out of every 3 days because they were usually at the end of a looooong cast.

i use the other ones when boat fishing.

I have my own mold.I use 7/0 an 8/0 hooks.
Like i said many times I will put 2 on.If ur snaggn to drop an fish this is fine.A large fish will eat this setup no problem an the extra weight helps to get em down.Somewhat.\
Like goose said reeling fast till u feel the bump is the way to go.
I have caught large fish on bunker that I have snagged with a pencil popper.I remember the first time it happened I was popping thru a school of bait when the plug snagged a bait an would not work.I was dissapointed for a second then I thought ok, lets see.The second I took the line off thr roller the bait got eaten.
The fish had the whole works down..
If I am snagging to collect bait I will make a snatch rigg.3 snelled inline 6/o light wire treble hooks bout 12"s apart with a 2 once bank sinker on a clip on the end.Have a bucket to bleed em out in then to the livewell. Change the water in the bucket every bloody bait.Blood clogs there gills an kills em off fast Tail hooked baits go on ice.They just bleed like a stuck pig when tail hooked.Try not to handle em too much this takes the slime off.Bass can tell when the slime is gone.an might shy away from unslimey baits..If there are fish in with the bait put the snatch rigg away an thro a pencil popper.

snell a couple of trebles inline and a sinker below them (like on a high/lo rig) works like a champ.

having a bail that closes on its own and sends your snag hook across the bay taught me this. necessity is the mother of all inventions.
