Hello
Long time lurker, first time typer. Hi, and thanks to everyone for teaching me a lot this last year. This forum has kept me laughing and learning and now that the ice is broken perhaps I'll chime in a bit.
Thank you JohnR for making me do this. I wanted a chance to win those plugs but didn't want my first post to be for a free plug. Now the second post that's different.

Plugs?! I'm in. Grew up on the elbow of CC. My dad and I fish pretty exclusively on the big beaches and the Race for Stripahs and from the boat for Tuna.
I last fished the outgoing AM tide at Scorton's on December 27th. I got skunked on sluggo's, small shad and plastic minnows, tiny deadly #^^^^&s, but I did get to test out the new Hab's my dad got me for Xmas. (Are we allowed to say we got skunked here?!). Currently in law school, and moving North soon, so my fishing time over the next few years will be pretty much weekend warrior status, but will still be hitting it hard whenever I am there visiting.
Best Fishing Story (actually my Dad's): Back in the early 80's when my dad and his friend were out fishing 6 nights a week, he was on the Race and he was staking out High Head and his buddy was at the other end, and they were going to meet up if either got into fish. Well, the CCNS Ranger who knew my dad and buddy well from fishing drives to my dad and says, "Hey, you know your buddy is heavy into a blitz..." and then dries away. While my dad is packing up his gear the Ranger drives to my Dad's buddy and says, "Hey, you know your buddy is heavy into fish." So he also packs up his gear, both drive towards one another and meet in the middle...when they get out of the truck, the Ranger just drives by laughing...

I have lurked here for years. I am active on a few other boards that are centered on the areas I fish (Jersey, DelMarVa, NC) but I enjoy keeping my mind open and current to what other areas are doing.
I have been surf fishing for 35 years and fish on a highly competitve team in New Jersey tournaments. For my own fun and enjoyment I fish Island Beach State Park and Brigantine with trips south a few times a year. I also distance cast and enjoy making rods and other tackle. I bait fish 75% of the time and my tackle and techniques show that. I am a proponent of modern spinning tackle as being on par and even eceeding the performace of conventional gear for casting and fish-fighting.
I would like to try the Ditch and the Cape and maybe the Islands (ferry toll ) this upcoming year, some of the action up there sounds mighty enticing!
I've been registered since May of '04 and I have just started posting here in the " long cast spinning reels" thread; I hope I have some worthwhile info to share.

Guilty as charged... i guess i should expand on my post a bit.
Been fishing since i was 4 years old ( 31 now ) .I remember my first trip with dad catching porgies off the beach. Dad taught me everything i know and love about fishing off the surf. I have a bunch of his old photos from his cape trips and wish i could have been fishing with him. Some of the pictures are both amazing and sad at the same time because of the number of bass that were killed for just .25 cents a pound.
I am married with a 8 month old baby girl and look forward to the day we can fish together on the beach and catch bass/blues. Wall street is my 9 to 5 and fishing is how i get to relax and recharge.
Thanks for this site john. Glad the office has not blocked it due to all the plug porn...

Hey! I resemble that accusation!
Innkeeper, etc. on BI and started fishing from the surf a few years ago. Fish at least once almost every day of the season; before, after, and sometimes during work. Picked up a fishing kayak last year for daytime and had a blast. Will try an old 21' Steiger Chesapeake next year for fluke and family fishing, as surf and kayak are not young-kid friendly. Will undoubtedly run and gun for bass/blues/bonita/albies on light tackle as well. (Yes, I know the fish will not count.)
Learned everything I know from Joe Lyons, and from this site. This is one of the only websites I visit on a daily basis. It has made me a MUCH better fisherman, not just in fish-catching technique, but handling and releasing the fish and respecting the resource as well.
In defense of us lurkers, most active members on this site have a lot of experience and I generally don't feel like there's much of value I can add. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate it A LOT! Someday I hope to be able to contribute more.
I didn't post for the plugs (but I'll take 'em), just to let you guys know that this site is an incredible resource for us beginners and improves the sport and aids the fishery.

Hi i,m from methuen,ma. I do a lot of lurking because you guys are a wealth of information. I fish the upper merrimack rver in the ealy spring when the stripers are chasing the herring up. We kill em (catch and release for the most part). Big fish and plenty of them. Late spring i fish the mouth of the river and Plum Island till the middle of november. I've fished these waters since i was a kid with my dad and now i fish with my son. Even after all these years there is always something to learn. If you want to catch fish you have to be willing to adapt and learn new things. Thanks to all the members of S-B for the great info. I also enjoy the closeness a lot of your members share, they're like family to each other. Best of luck to all in the coming season and keep posting it really helps get me through a long winter.

Guess Im a lurker. Mostly for the fishing stories and to get advice on reels/rods. I do enjoy this forum and some of you guys should be comedians. Been fishing pretty hard the past few years with some quality fish to show for it. It's been in my blood since the mid-70's since my dad took me out on the beaches overnight in Weekapaug (did I just spot burn ). Now live in Middletown RI with my wife, 2 year old son and another on the way in April. Mostly fish the rock piles in NPT.
Happy New Year

Hey guys,
you didn't give me a chance to be a lurker, just signed up. I'm a 22 year old grahpic designer in Long Island. 2nd year into surf casting, learning a lot and love it. Fished freshwater all my life, but saltwater seems to be my main thing right now. That's pretty much it.

Hello all
I've been lurking on this site more and more recently now that I've been bitten by the plug-building bug. This site has a wealth of knowledge on the subject that cannot be beat. I'm small potatoes right now, just carving with a dremel and using screweyes, but hopefully one day I will get a lathe. This hobby (or addiction) is ridiculously fun.
Oh, and this past year was my first fishing the surf. I've fished sweetwater since I was a kid, but gave the salt a go in the spring and there is no turning back. Someone asked me recently why I fished only saltwater this year and I told him "the fish are bigger!" I've lost a lot of sleep but made up for it with a mess of schoolies, a lot of blues, and one keeper, which was let loose to fight again and hopefully breed other keepers.
Anyways, thanks for the opportunity.

Well I guess I'm a lurker. Let's see I'm 23 originally from the South Shore of Mass and grew up on fishing the Cape beaches. Then I got into freshwater bass fishing and do that pretty seriously. I'm now down in Charlestown, RI working on my masters, so I don't have much time to do the freshwater stuff. Because I can't not go fishing I've been getting back in striper fishing. Therefore, I poke around on this site and a few others trying to pick up all the knowledge that I can.

Lurkers aren't all bad!
Hello all! I'm a Lurker, 30, and have been boating out of Onset most of my life with my parents. Always wanted to go fishing, but never could get them to take me out as often as I would have liked. Now that I finally bought my own boat, with last year being my 1st full season, I go as often as I can. Not too successful with stripers yet, buy I sure can get those damn bluefish! I've contributed to a few posts, but I am mostly looking to see how well everyone else is doing. Hopefully I can share my good fortunes better next year!
BTW, this is a great site! I really enjoy it, and hope it never go away! Thank you!

I'm a lurker also.
Grew up in Stonington, CT and surf fished from there over to Charleston and BI. We also fished the Watch Hill Reefs, Fishers Island and other spots. Moved to northern Maine in 1984 but like to keep in touch with striper fishing. Its a long cast from here.
