Who can tell me about this system.
Anyone using them in smaller boats?

I might want to keep track of fuel comsumption for those long journeys. Will it tell me if the power is not running right?

How much $$$$ for a single outboard?

I thought they sipped gas? Let me tell you about my 350 Carborated Chevy.

Toys like that sound cool but it is pricey. I think maybe $600. A freind of mine has one, it worked for a couple of years and hasn't worked right for about 5 now, it came with the boat when he bought it, used.

So I'd say save your money, $600 will buy more gas! Go buy feel and sound. On my boat I can tell when the secondaries open up and if I'm just messing around I take it easy.

A guy I boat with has it on his twins. He says he can tell if an engine is out of tune, or plugs fouling because he knows the exact floscan reading at 4000 rpm. I thought it might come in handy with some engine issues I've had. BUT that is WAY too pricey and your right "not worth it."

Flo Scan and all fuel management systems are meant for just that
"fuel management"

If you know where your sweet spot is (doing the best speed with burning the least amount of fuel ) you don't need one.

I installed one in my boat (single 175 HP Johnson 2 stroke). I think it cost me about $350 at the time. It took me about 8 hours to install though it should have taken half that (live and learn). It has always worked good for me. I use it to show me the best consumption rate vs speed AND to count EXACTLY how much fuel I have in my tank. My gas gauge is only a rough estimate. It takes about 20 gallons just to come off full and when it shows half a tank it's well less than half. Every time I fill up I write down what the total is. It gives me piece of mind to know how many gallons are in my tank. Not that I push it, I just want to always be aware of fuel. If the weather kicks up it can be as important as oxygen. Remember 1/3 out, 1/3 back, 1/3 reserve.

90 bucks a tank (28 gallons) filled up june 1

vacation last week, still at half a tank.

been out maybe 10 -12 times now on this fill up

did i tell ya how much i love the suzuki motors??

after a few whale watch trips though it will go up quick

Yup this is what I mean, my gauge works fine and I've never run out of fuel. But knowing that sweet spot is a good thing and comsumption. Some engine issues I have (hopefully soon to be fixed) my gal/hr has gone up. Four trips and my tank was near MT. Thats poor for my ficht. So it would be nice to keep track like you can. Maybe if I find a system for cheap $$$, but again, way up in the hundreds is kinda high. Tough to justify. Other thing is I love more TOYS on my boat. !!!!!!!

I have a new Floscan still in the box I bought about 8 years ago to install on a whaler I had with a 135 merc. I just never got around to putting it in then I sold the boat. If you are interested I can get the model # for you tonight and if it is a fit we can go from there.
