Buzzards Bay Anglers Club Charity Tournament Sept 7 , 8 and 9

Buzzards Bay Anglers Club Launches Charitable Fund
Upcoming Tournament to Benefit Fund

The Buzzards Bay Anglers Club is committed to giving back to the SouthCoast community – hook, line and sinker.

With $1,000, the club has launched the Buzzards Bay Anglers Club Charitable Fund as a fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts (CFSEMA) with the goal of making small grants to local organizations that need it the most. The next step is to raise the $10,000 needed before grants can be made, said President George Fearons.

“We as a group have decided to give a portion of our dues, raffle and tournament proceeds to charity,” Mr. Fearons said. “We want to spread the little bit we have throughout the community.”

An upcoming event that will benefit the fund is the 2nd annual Buzzards Bay Anglers Club In-Shore Tournament, a catch-and-release family event scheduled for September 7, 8 and 9, Mr. Fearons said. Registration will be held Friday night at the Kinsale Inn in Mattapoisett and fishing will take place throughout the weekend on the waters of Buzzards Bay. Proceeds will go the charitable fund.

A 2-year-old nonprofit organization, the Anglers Club counts more than 100 members from Falmouth to Fall River who share a passion for fishing on the local waters of Buzzards Bay. The Club meets the second Thursday of each month at the Kinsale Inn, and tries to give back to the community through education and social events.

“We shall strive to make a difference by educating the public and expanding our reach,” according to the Club’s mission. “We will plan local tournaments and social events, educate our young anglers, protect our fisheries and give back to the community. Most importantly we will have fun and get out on the water together.”

The Charitable Fund is an outgrowth of that mission. A committee from the Anglers Club will serve as advisors for the grant-making process. The Community Foundation will manage the Fund and help the committee identify organizations in need of grants.

About the Community Foundation
Since 1995, area residents have been turning to the Community Foundation to make their philanthropic giving as effective as possible. CFSEMA is a public charity serving thousands of people who share a common concern – improving the quality of life in Southeastern Massachusetts.

While the Foundation’s primary grantmaking focus is on the SouthCoast communities of Greater New Bedford, Greater Fall River, and Greater Plymouth County, CFSEMA is a regional foundation serving 41 cities and towns. To date, the Community Foundation has assets of more than $18 million and has distributed nearly $5 million from 108 funds to humanitarian, educational and cultural organizations in the region.
