Question Good / Informative books...

Hope everyone had an enjoyable / successful weekend!

I picked up a few books:

1) Striper Hot Spots: The 100 Top Surfcasting Locations from Maine to New Jersey, Daignault.

2) The Trophy Striper, Daignault.

3) Surfcaster's Quest: Seeking Stripers, Blues, and Solitude at the Edge of the Surging Sea, Rowan

I know, with my limited knowledge and equipment, I'm probably not going to land a striper or blue any time soon, never mind a trophy but... they were fun reading nonetheless.

What I really need though is a good book on surf casting in general. Any recommendations?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Regards,
Rob

BTW:
If you're in CT, the blues have been blitzing off the shore of Niantic bay, right where the mouth of the river dumps out!

And... if you haven't read Surfcaster's Quest, give it a shot.

Two books:

Striper Surf by Daigneault. Great read, and a good overview of surfcasting in general.

Reading the Water. Another good read, but hard to find.

Both books offer to explain the general concepts of stripers and their habits. They both advocate that before you perfect your casting and presentation, you should really practice understanding where stripers hang out and why they do so.

I have not read Surfcaster's Quest yet...

Bob Post's Reading the Water is excellent and VERY hard to find

Striped Bass by Nick Karas is a good book not so much on fishing methods but on the fish themselves, biology, management, & scientific data.. A little dated as the last edition I have is from the 90's but I've heard that there is a new release now.

Pick up the OTW Surfcaster's guide to Rhode Island. Good book with a detailed look at several places. It has tips & info from Dave Pickering and Joe Lyons (Joe posts here from time to time and I can almost predict where DP will be fishing from time to time )

btw - rumor mill has tim coleman working on a new surfcasting book with a lot of Rhody boys, yeh baby

Get another 100 hot spots and leave one copy in your vehicle . It comes in handy when on the road and ya need directions to a spot . The other books John mentioned by OTW are good too for directions and parking at unformilar areas .
I fish Niantic occasionally . I just love to drift eels out into the bay .
Try later on in October . LARGE fish !!!!

Every book mentioned is worth their money and a great read . I still havent read Bob Posts " reading the water " But I will find it and buy it .
