Cuttyhunk Bass numbers on the decline(1865-1895)

By now, many of you have probably had the chance to fish the fabled waters surrounding Cuttyhunk Island. When I had the opportunity to stay at the old club house before it became the bed and breakfast that many of you are familiar with, the then-owner gave me a journal written by Andrew W. Frew. This well written piece examines the life of the Cuttyhunk Club and it's members. Here's a passage I thought you may enjoy:

"This chart illustrates the ratio between the number of days spent fihing by visitors and members at the Cuttyhunk Club and the number of fish caught. The number of fish is divided by the number of fishing days to produce the value of fish per day."

In 1865 there were 556 fishing days with 1252 fish caught averaging 2.25 fish per day;

In 1875 there were 973 fishing days with 721 fish caught averaging .74 fish per day;

In 1885 there were 558 fishing days with 46 fish caught averaging .08 fish per day; and

In 1895 there were 724 fishing days with 21 fish caught averaging .03 fish per day.

I just thought you might want to keep this in perspective when you have a bad season.

I've been experiencing the same trend there......
