Question standard milage rates

i have before me .......a paper copied off the internet from

the internal revenue service
united states department of the treasury

it states Beginning jan 1rst 2008 the standard milage rate for the use of a car ,
vans pickups and panel trucks will be

50.5 cents per mile

old rate in 2007 was 49.50
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
so i'm getting paid only .35 cents
so am i entitled to ask for the 50.5 cents now?
or whats the deal? is this mandatory
i believe your company can pay as much or as little as they want.
I also believe if you do not get paid the fed #, then you can write off the difference. you would have to have a decent log of miles driven in case of audit.
0.35 is a crime. You know it costs more than that to run it.
I got 0.48 in 2007.
The rate is not set yet for 08'
Most you can do is bring it to their attention.
I think its still descretionary per company, the article might be referring to fed workers. DUNNO....
To All,
FYI – Make note that as per IRS 2008 standard car mileage rate has been changed accordingly to $0.505/ mile.
