I decided to make a quick stop yesterday evening down at Grinnells Beach in Tiverton, to find that the fishing had sucked there "as usual"... so I decided to take a drive down the road to fish off the nearest bridge near the mouth of an inlet...
There were maybe four or five people fishing & only one person there was catching anything while the others who appeared to be disgruntled continued to lob plugs & chunkbait.
I noticed that this guy was catching blues using the pearl storm shads, so I went back to my vehicle to grab some to try them out... needless to say, it wasn't long before I got into some just larger than snapper-sized blues...
The action there continued on until dusk, & as the sun had set, everyone left it just got better!...
Usually I get annoyed when the blues are running & desroying all of my plastics, but this was one of those evenings where I simply enjoyed the experience of catching & releasing until I ran down my alloted inventory of plastic shad...
My last shad was destroyed by a monster that nailed it near the pylon at the center of the bridge...
And although I wasn't fortunate enough to get this badboy onto my hook,
I realized how easily it is to take these grand fish for granted...
As much as I love fishing for Striped Bass...
I LOVE CATCHING BLUES!!!
I don't think that I'll ever think about bluefish the same way again..
Perhaps there is something to bluefish that I just didn't understand or appreciate until now...
