Question Daytime Darters

I haven't fished much with darters but this year I'm looking to add them to my bag of tricks. I was just re-reading the chapter on them in Zeno's book and he states that darters are so ineffective during the day that it is not even worth trying. Has anyone else found this to be true? Soon it will be a moot point, as I will be fishing in the dark anyways, but for this time of year and in the fall when I do fish some daylight hours I am curious to hear what people think.

And pencil poppers only work in the daytime.

I threw a darter once during daylight... I can't say whether it worked or not as I couldn't open my eyes and my flesh was burning off my bones. Worst 30 seconds of my life.

I caught some schoolies on a yellow darter the other day. The fish seemed so pissed off at it! I suspect they may be more effective at night, but "you never know".. I had actually thought of that line from Zenos fine book after I was fishing it. I was about to take it off and suddenly a fish around 20" or so crashed the darter. 2 more casts and he was pinned on it. Cool stuff. I'm a big fan of that book BTW, the thing is (and this is expressed throughout the book) there is no "gospel" to catching stripers. Sometimes breaking the "rules" is the only thing that works.

I caught on a Rockfish9 darter yesterday, pearl white/pink. It was stupid fishing.
Maybe Zeno means at Montauk or something.
