Ever think of just checking out?

I dont know if its the thought of hitting the Big 40 next year or the realization that I am deeply immersed in the rat race, or if its the current economic climate but I have been thinking about just packing it up.....move to somewhere like Newfoundland or Nova Scotia. Live in a small town, get a basic job, 9-5, no more laptop at home unitl 11pm 3 nights a week, raise my kids in a small town. Someplace where I can walk to a local pub, no worries of crime, no worries of war, no worries of terrorism. Just live day to day.

Novie is beautiful. My moms side of the family is from there. Don't go there if you got a drinking problem though as there ain't much to do. Wait till you turn 50.

I actually like my IT job (for the most part) and it beats what I've done in the past.

You could do that in Maine, or in a part or RI or two. The dinero part is the hard part....

If it wasn't for my son, my wife and I'd probably have moved to Roatan years ago. Live in paradise where English is spoken and the cost of living is cheap. They even have American trained doctor on the island. I guess I can always look forward to retirement in 30 - 35 years.

Other than logging or touristing I have no idea what people do for a living up there.
I go up there several times a year for the past 30 years, still haven't any idea.

Canada looks good - you could work a no-mind job and still have basic health care. I read an article a while back about the extreme poverty and terrible access to health care in rural Maine - bad.

We have a friend who was living in western Maine for several years. One time she mentioned this new boyfriend that she was really excited about...he had a "lot of firewood".

Enough said.

Call Karl or have him call you when he's ready to sell, perfect place for ya.

RIJIMMY, no I never thought about just checking out, I have thought about moving away from it all though many times. I'd love a nice simple cabin away from it all, grow my own food, catch and shoot my own meat, live off the land, have some wind power or waterwheel of some kind etc. but I guess I don't want to be far from my other family and the ocean, so i stay here and make boxes

The United States Constitution does not exist to grant you rights; those rights are inherent within you. Rather it exists to frame a limited government so that those natural rights can be exercised freely.

Ever think of checking out?

When I was the title the 1st thing that came to mind was an old Cheech & Chong skit about suiside.

something like this....

All bummed out and thinking of ending it all?
Well come to Empire Hancock.
7 diving boards and no waiting.
30 stories straight down insuring our hits no misses guarantee.
ect............................................... ................

I haven't listened to it in a long time and can't remember all the lines.

no, no suicide for me, thanks for the concern though.
I spent some time in Europe in 2001 and was amazed at how simple life seemed. You go by poor rural areas and they were so neat and clean. No abondoned cars, no piles of crap. I moved back to the east coast 8 years ago from Califrona. My wife and I had a mattress, a computer, a small tv, 6 guitars, a few amps, a stereo, a few thousand cds and our clothes. That and our car was all we owned. 8 years later, I have a 4 bed room house, a garage so filled with crap I can barely park my car, a cellar loaded with crap, more fishing stuff that I can ever use, piles of kids toys they never use.........what the hell happened?
I keep thinking of the J. Giles song " I must have got lost, somewhere down the line"

I haven't considered it. Stand, fight, and take your lumps...it builds character.....

Most people in the world are waaaaay worse off than we are. I do like a nice getaway once in a while though.

Mike, ever been to Tuscany? My wife and I stayed in a castle (literally constructed in 701 AD) there for $425 a week in 2001. Every day we went to a different hill town, drank the best wine and ate the best food. I can see you running a vineyard there with the family recipe.
people know how to drive on Italy. On the highways, you pass and then move to the right, no cruising in the passing lane. People go 100+ and then move out of the left lane. I loved it.
