Usually the only goal of these pirates is to get to the Masters office and open the safe and scoot.
They usually will get anywhere from 40,000 to 100,000 dollars.
The ship and its cargo are of no use to the pirates.
I have had colleages boarded and tied up years ago. Actually they rolled him up in a throw carpet.......
This happens daily though out the world.

Unfortunately we can't be the globe's police. The saudis' can't afford armed protection for a ship like this?

Crap - forgot to post my response and deleted it
Anyway, this has been going on for a while. Beamie, the ransoms are millions of dollars these days for the ship and crew. The navies aren't doing much because of legal malarkey once they intervene and it is not a high enough priority for most nations.

Rules of engagement ...WTH...this world is way too politically correct. I say once fired on, sink em and leave the pirates floating for the sharks.
Better yet, let one live and drop him off on land to tell his fellow pirates.

The Saudis need to send an email to Blackwater - looks like they're gonna be looking for work shortly anyway.
Unless, of course, they've got a gig in Crawford after the Inaugaration.

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.

The Saudi's need to handle their affairs themselves,,, Maybe they will just shoot the pirates anyways,,,like we SHOULD do
No need for Blackwater in Crawford, Bush is moving to Dallas,,,

Fifty caliber Gatling guns, fore and aft, would do the trick. Rip them right out of the skins. Twentey mm cannons, just like the warthog jets. None of those boats would stand a chance against either armament. The only ships to outrun them so far have been two cruise ships. The first one actually returned fire about a year ago if I remember correctly.

One the U.N. Approves new rules of engagement, the ships patrolling the area now will put a quick end to it.

I got an idea,
We, (sb.com'ers) could take over one of these ships and drop anchor just inside the canyon. Use the ship as a floating hotel/fuel dock. We can fish indefinitely and have enough fuel for our lifetimes. Moreover, we could staff it with pirates of our own to entertain and guard the vessel . I have a few prates in mind and just happened to have their photos. You can see how fierce they look.
Back to work now....
