Should I upgrade my Cox cable?

So our upstairs TV was ill and I replaced it with a new 32" LG flat panel. I also have an older Sony 32" downstairs. We have regular analog cable, and are not huge TV people aside from RedSox and Patriots games.

I've got the DVD player hooked up with component cables and it looks good.

The question is, is it worth going to digital cable if I'm not going all the way to HD? Digital looks like about 16 bucks more a month + 5.50 for a digital converter for the older TV. HD is another 20+ on top of that.

Feedback please.

Probably not. I would say get some good rabbit ear type antenna (or better yet, look through avsforum.com ) and catch over the air HD signals. Won't help with the Sox but will work with most Pat's games.

So how much is it /mo total for Internet and Cable now and how much would it be /mo for HD? FIOS available in your area? My experience with Verizon's non technical support has been beyond miserable, tech OK, but FIOS rocks.

Cox has fast net in my neck of the woods.I don't watch TV 2 much but I know I have digital on one TV.It has a DVR so she can record programs. Is it worth it to me.Nope.Is the picture any better ? I can't tell the difference from the tv with the coax threaded in the back to the one with component cables except for the digital one has tons of junk channels that you'll never watch. So if you ask me the answer is no.It's not worth the extra ca$h.

Looks like it's a moot issue. I called COX this morning and they admitted the pricing online is completely confusing and contradictory. Looks like it's only another 13 bucks a month to get HD on the new set. If you look at their website it looks like another 50!

You cant beat High Def.....but if you dont want to get it through a cable provider...some of the newer tv's have a built in HD tuner....you can usually pick up some HD channels through that....do a channel auto-program....you might pick up channels like 4-1, which is 4 in HD....some HD channels may be out of order as well....say nesn is channel 38....nesn hd might be 45-1...you have to go through each channel and figure it out

I agree.

Also, if anyone wants a 26" (I think) TV with a bad tuner and sound it's free before I toss it. The picture tube is fine, so hooked up to a VCR and some speakers would work well for a shop or basement.
