dates for rod building workshop
I will be having the rod building classes at my house no charge of course. but trying to nail down a date.
I have a show in SC. I will be away from the Jan 4th thru the 13
rod crafters seminar in CT 16-19th
then another new england tackle show 26th & 27th
I could probably do the tackle show in 1 day and have the rodbuilding work shop on the 25th or 26th of January.
hows those dates work for you guys & gals.

I will have tables, chairs back boards for thread
I'll make a bunch of v-blocks
If you have a wrapper bring it if possible.
If you can get one of these clips in lg size (2") it will realy help out. it acts like an extra hand.
http://www.striped-bass.com/Articles/figure14.shtml
Looks like I can fit approx 18-20people depending on the size rods you guys want to build.
I told John earlier that I would have some specials (limited availability)on Rod Building kits I have set up just for the fling.
click here for specials or go to specials thread
http://www.striped-bass.com/vbulleti...&threadid=5186
If what you want to build a blank that is not on the list PM me and I will try to get it for you.
or you are welcome to bring your own rod that you want to build or just repair. I'll have plenty of guides & other stuff there

Rod work shop
Mike I would like to go to your work shop. I have a couple of my own rod blanks already and would just need guides and a real seat. Let me no when the class is and I will be there. There will be two of us if that is ok? Just let me know, Thanks.
I got to this site from the rod building forum. From the post you left me.

I have a couple of qustions.
There are a few types of rods I need to complete my gear. Can I save any money by learning to build my own?
What type of investment is needed to get into this hobby?
Thanks in advance.

depends how deep you want to go.
this is just an example but you can get the idea. The rod in the link below costs aprox $225. depending on art work.
you cam buy the parts for about $120.
http://www.striped-bass.com/Articles/ninechunk1.shtml
a you will need a set of 3-4 v-Blocks felt lined(depends on rod lengths)
Thread, epoxy, rod finish. a little imagination and time & patience

I'm interested in coming too
This would be my first attempt at rod building; I was thinking the 7' American Tackle conv. kit. Would like to use this for dual purpose heavy fluking and casting (this would also be my first conv. for casting - gotta start somewhere)

Mike I have a Lami SB 121 3m I would like to build as a Herring rod for the Canal. I want to go conventional. I would like to take 1' off the butt. Would it be possible to build this at the workshop next weekend? If so, would you have the available components? I guess I would want to use Fugi Hardloy guides, and a sic top, and a trigger reel seat, with cork tape, and one of those mushroom buttcaps that I like. Also was wondering if you will have wrapping thread, and other guides and such for sale there? I am not sure what colors I would want on this blank. I am heading out today to get some masking tape, and I will look for those clips you mntioned from the article. If I find the clips, I will get a bunch.

I will have all the components at the house thats the rod i did the artical on for john.
http://www.striped-bass.com/Articles/ninechunk1.shtml
If I recall the reel seat 22T will only slide down as far as 24" from the butt.
If you want to go smaller you will have to go with a 24 regular graphite seat.
