I don't go there often and only posted like 3 times in the kayaking forum.
I think it's something like 3,000. but i like the company here SO MUCH more! you get to know people here much better...Plus 95% of the people on here are local, SOL is mostly NJ and even further..
i stay with S-B even when i got kicked out

1000 members will be a great Milestone here.
SSX , both sites are great. Great guys on SOL too. I have many friends there.
This place is great standing on its own. One of the things that's really good here is that we don't get competitive with other sites. We allow links to other sites and most of the guys here visit many sites. Its good for fishing and for all of us for all the sites to be strong and have friendly relationships with one another.

1,000 members and we should P-A-R-T-Y
the webmaster of SOL seems to want is site and only his in the spotlight....i seen links posted and the webmaster rips there heads off for them if they make a mistake..
I like that for its kayaking forum only and havent been there since i rejoined S-B...
Plus.... SnS & I desided this is the best way NOT to arue & get kicked out again
I got permission from John a few days ago to put a SB banner on my HomePage, even tho my page isn't highly visited I think it may be responsible for 2 or 3 of the new members maybe???
I think if we also put a little add in OTW or The Fisherman Magazine. that it would boost up the tourisim here ALOT.....but i like it how it is now to tell yas the truth

Very well said Saltheart.....I have a "friend" that is well, let's say, somewhat contorversial (no, he's never posted here, that I know of), but deep in his heart, he feels the same way....and it is very wise vision....
SSX....."the webmaster of SOL seems to want is site and only his in the spotlight....i seen links posted and the webmaster rips there heads off for them if they make a mistake.."
Let's just say that he has his reasons...some are very legit, and nothing to do with the "spotlight".....and we'll leave it at that......

Steve i know you are ahead of the RI forum in SOL.
TimS is crazy when is seen him and isnt much of a talker & shouldnt of started a website if he cant handle it, just my .02 (if its worth that...)
S-B is here, even if it isn't always on my good side.

Mike, my Forum Leader Staus on SOL has absolutley nothing to do with the feelings I posted above.
Just for your knowledge, I participate in many fishing websites, and am also a moderator on another one besides SOL, and consider myself a "senior member" here as well....
Tim has his rules, John has his rules, other sites have their rules. Tim's site is somewhat unique of the three because he sells tackle on line, and has sponsers that pay him a fair amount of money to advertise there. He cannot have commercial links popping up all over his message boards for other sites that offer tackle or compete with his sponsers, as that not only cuts into his tackle business, but is also unfair to his paid sponsers.
He also does not want things/controversies/arguements brought from other fishing message boards to his site, much as John does not want that here, because these guys have a hard enough time monitoring their own boards and keeping it civil, let alone having to watch every other board on the web from where things spill over.
So just follow the rules, okay?
(John, sorry if I stepped out of bounds here, but it needed to be said, and I hope you approve....

1st:......Goose, I'm STUPIK...I'll admit it, but I'm proud...and that makes up for it
2ndly: BM..."rather see this place stay local"....you mean LOCO !! don't you??....
StriperSweeper..."why ain't you at work ?"...I yam, was, iz ..
..and lastly, " the webmaster of SOL seems to want his site and only his in the spotlight... - Let's just say that he has his reasons...- and we'll leave it at that..."
Tim should THANK his members everyday for making HIS site what it is...

Thread HiJack... Are we talking about S-B or SOL here?
I'm not going to get into the age old debate of who can say what & where and link what or talk what, because we all know which sites does what and which site does not (OK shameless plug for S-B ) THEREFORE let's move this topic back to what it is. The fact that this site & the members here have made it grow the way it has, in the flavor that it has.
As Saltheart said: "This place is great standing on its own. One of the things that's really good here is that we don't get competitive with other sites. We allow links to other sites and most of the guys here visit many sites. Its good for fishing and for all of us for all the sites to be strong and have friendly relationships with one another."
It all boils down to that all of these sites have their own flavors, their followers, pros & cons, and a sizeable dose of people that go to many of them
** btw - SSX, the thougth of you managing S-B's ever so meager advertising dollars is scary so we'll skip that thought **
