Fenwick Rods
I recently went and visited a family member of mine who has made me a few custom fly roads. While looking around some of his old gear he came across several old Fenwick surfcasting blanks. I own and have fished Fenwick fly gear for most of my life, so jumped on the opportunity to have him make me a Fenwick salt rod. From what ive heard and read the company produced top quality rods through mid to late 80's. I had a chance to look at the rod half finished over the weekend and cant wait to pick it up during the holidays. And more importantly fish with it.
I was just curious if anyone has or still does fish any Fenwick gear and whether or not they enjoyed their product.

Fenwick has a legacy going back many years. I am curiuos though, what was the length of the rod? What is it rated for? (oz.) Is it spinning or conventional? And what type of reel do you plan to use with it.

thats why they call it fishing not catching

I've got a couple of Fenwick rods, including a custom 12' rod that #^^^^&y had made for himself in the early 70's. They are awesome rods!

Its 11.5' spinning and im not sure what its rated. Its a black two peice blank and it didnt appear to have any writing or stamp that i could find to indicate what model it is, i also didnt think to ask because i was too excited. Im not sure what im going to use for a reel, my one thought is to track down an older penn but ive never used one. any suggestions

Going old school lines wise...
Penn models
704 or 706
Mitchell the big 300s
Crack/ luxor 300
Daiwa made some reels that looked like the 704s also..

I have one from my Grandfather, a 12 foot with a Damn Quick 550 on it. I am going to replace a bad guide or two, clean up the real, and chase a fish on it one of these days.
